Miles, I would contact someone like Boating International. They import Riviera, Rodman etc and some of these are huge and they must be shipped somehow, and it sure as hell does not coast over a Bar to ship them here.

They ship them in a cradle on the deck of the ship. Take a spin around Durban harbour, you'll see them there. They are "shrink wrapped" to protect them. I know shipping a boat from Japan like this, for a 27' boat costs about 150 000yen = about R150k.

A mate of mine shipped a 7m boat from CT up to Pemba in Moz. It was loaded as deck cargo on a Ukrainian freighter. I went along to see it stowed, hoisted on with the ships crane dropped onto old tyres on the deck and tied down. It was fairly roughly used when it left and got there OK and remember it was cheap but can't remember the price. Might have been quoted in cases because all the okes loading seemed to be pissed.
