Howzit guys...

I have a Purglass 400/6+1 that has broken the tip +-25cm from the tip. The rod unfortunatley cannot be repaired.

I would like to know if I could use this rod or does it have to be a boat rod?

And does the reel have have to be a Multiplier or can one use a Scarborough?

Thanks guys:fishn

Hi Mr H

I know that Enigma has mentioned that he uses his Purglass /8 for Kitefishing.

The experts would be able to give you better advice than me.

Mr H.someone like Enigma who builds rods may be able to tell you whether the specific Purglass blank has enough layers at that distance from the tip for it to be strong enough .My guess would be that 25cm should still give you a strong rod,and yes it can then be used.

As  for the Scarborough, difficult to tell without knowing which one you have ,as some have substantial drags, and others not.You may well use it, as the ratio and sheer circumference will aid greatly in retrieving kites, but you also dont want to lose any fingers on a big fish.

Recently a huge Zambi was caught using one ,but the angler obviously knows his tackle, and  its capabilities.Try a search under Zambi-pics.

Thanks Kitefisher & Arno.

And yes the rod feels extremly strong & stiff.

I was going to strip it down and remove the guides and winche

but would rather to make use of it.

anybody else has any thoughts to share on the subject it would be much appreciated.

thanks again guys....

The rod must be +- 2m long, must have rollers preferbly, tip must not be less than 60lbs rated, Aftco butt so the reel does not swing around when fighting or retrieving, Aftco bucket for the reel.
What more do you want to know?
You can mail me and I will help you as much as I can. On your first mail I will send you my number if you need more info. I will also draw you pics and fax it if needed.

Hi

I was at Mias ( Fourways ) today and there was a pioneer full fibreglass rod, a TUNA TERROR PLUS .

Will this rod work?
Reason for asking is that I only want to take my bait out and drop it , nothing fancy, yet. ;)

I have a EH /7 that was busted at Fransmans with said 'frans' on the other end....bustard...he's still swimming out there... ja well ...i will be using this rod myself on the kite as its tip action has gone forever, but it proves to be a lekka stiff rod either for swimbait or for the kite itself. I think anyway the kite rod should be short and stiff with rollers on as Thunder recommends. The fact that the rod wont twist is an option to seriously consider, due to the fact you have an enormous length of line outside and reeling it fighting a large beast will surely tire anyone.

A friend of mine has hooked a Kingie using a roller guide boat rod, and if it wasn't for the reel having clips on and him having a harness on and bakkie close to the beach...he wuda been pulled into the surf, rod n all!

If just for dropping a bait I have a 5' jigging rod that the tip was broken off, has a gimble fitted and I shortened the butt. The shorter the rod the easier it is in dealing with the kite and the angle.

Using a KP was a good option but can get irritating with the line jumping off the spool when you're trying to let the kite out. I popped a 13' KP (New fibre one) when retrieving a kite in a storm wind and from 400m.

I personally fish a standard rock and surf rod because i drop the baits either by clip or bait taxi and like to be mobile and self reliant in the fight when getting the line over rocks etc.

The /6 with the shortened tip will work fine for fighting fish and the lower layers of the rod have plenty backbone for the fight.

My personal swimbait/kite rod is a Purglas 385/8 rod with either my Trini 50 for short drops 250-300m or the tica 30 lever drag for big baits, swimbaits or bait dropped at 400m+

My kite reel is a Saltist 50 filled with 80lbs Whiplash

PSY,

The rod is perfect! Just get yourself a decent reel like a Penn 9/0 or bigger and you will have a feast pulling the BIG ones home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ::S::S::S::S::S

@Thunder, we're using those rods with the std KP just to drop baits and then using std fishing tackle.

Abaddon33's got my 385/8 for using with his Tica30 lever drag.  Find the bit longer rod, you can rock hop better with the longer rod than the short boat rod.
