Well I got some info about a private dam in Nigel and contacted the right person and arranged a trip for myself with him. I met the guy at a service station in Nigel and headed out to the dam. We were on the water by 6:30. I must say the dam looks really good but you will defiantly need an outboard to get to the fishable section as most of the dam is covered in grass. And most of the banks are covered with reeds so bank fishing is also out of the question.

We got to our first spot we fished which were still on the grass. We targeted open pools. I used a Ztoo fluke from strike king witch floats and on my second cast I was on with a fish of about 700 Grams. Now let me just inform you that this is the smallest size you get in this dam. I did not see smaller fish and we did not catch anything smaller. We moved of the grass and fished down the bank till we got back to the grass. I saw an isolated grass patch about 15 meters away from the grass line and pitched a 5” black and blue senko just over the grass and reeled it in just over the grass to sink. But a fish had a different idea because as the senko hit the water this beautiful puppy decided it had other ideas. And weighed in at 2.8kg’s. The very next cast the guy I was with landed a 1.86kg. We continued fishing the morning where I dropped another two big fish close to the boat and boated loads of other fish.

To me the fishing was very good to the guy I was with “The fishing is crap today” So would like to see this body of water switch on. The biggest so far out this dam is a 4.2 but loads of fish over 3kg’s in there

Ryan the best of all is they have Babel, Some huge carp and some nice curper as well. So if the bass fishing slows down then we can target other species as well. Well I want to go again next weekend. Fishing the classic this weekend. So in Durban from Thursday till Monday

Hi guys, can you fish this dam on a float tube?
What are the costs involved, and can anyone just "rock up" and fish?
Is it safe?

Thanks

It's situated in Waterkloof

I ran a nylon rope into it the other day with a weight attached to it just to see what the depth is and on the first spot i mesured it at 20 meters.

I am sure you will love the spot.
