[font=Calibri][size=2]Well after seeing Ryan dippi

Well after seeing Ryan dipping for carp on the vaal and chatting about it for some time. Ryan provided me with some of the lead heads they use to dip for carp and also Barbel. Now there are 2 dams just around the corner from my house. Now there is bass, barbell and carp in both dams so I decided to take my bass tackle and tie one of the lead heads on it to try and dip for barbell and boy is it fun. It is completely different from bass fishing and the fight on light tackle is amazing. I would defiantly recommend you guys try this and I must take my hat off to Ryan and monster who do the artlure angling. This is not easy to do

Does it have to be done between structure such as lillypads, etc? Or in open water... A little more info please. Would like to try it...

Almost,dipping is one way of catching barbel.

Wen dipping u will do sight fishing u must see the barbel to dip the lead head right on its wiskers.

How big is the body of water? Is a dam like Inanda or Albert Falls too big. It's not often you see them close enough to do that...

Most dams u can dip, if there is barbel,dams with shallows are more productive u will find them sun baving in the shallows.the thing is to find the right habitat at the right time of jear were thy will be cruising around or lying in the shallows to suck up the sun.

Sorry just a correction VC was "Ploncing" - Raising the loodkoppie a few cm above the water and allowing it to fall back in a few times causing soft splashing sounds this is repeated about 5 times and then the loodkoppie is raised and lowered just under the water surface a few times and then the ploncing is repeated - this is a form of "Calling" you also get "Klopping" which requires a whole different method and if you want to read more about it have a look through the Barbel section. This is done using a specialized rod called a "Roepstok"

So it acctually goes for a plain loodkoppie.....amazing.
Why not use a hook with a plastic bait then? Does the loodkoppie somehow put up a better fight?

Hey Ryan, congrats on that monster of a barbel but i have to say it's the ugliest thing i've ever seen! What a strange colour, did you catch that thing in the vaal triangle?

I see, i just asumed that it's from the vaal because it looks like a Bass cross breeded with an otter and i know that in the vaal triangle cross breeding is the in thing.

I must agree....but I must add the Barbel is ugly too..... LOL!!!!!

But on a serios note, I take my hat of for artlure fishing, it takes alot of patience and skill to master. would like to try it sometime. You must float on the vaalriver in the tube, you wouldnt believe how many fish (carp and barbel) you see lying and turning underneath the trees and stumps just below the water surface. I've had many barbel swim right up next to me and sometimes you get a bump or two, which is not a lekka feeling espesially if you dont have your neoprene waders on.
