hi guys

hope all of you are doing very well.

i went to the AGM for the roodepoort angling club to enable me to fish the members side of florida lake, now although there was a lot of politics as there are with all angling clubs.... these guys are really trying hard to make that venue into the dam it is supposed to be..... has anyone fished there or joined the club and left becuase they werent happy with the service or something?? like i mentioned i am new there so I might be completely wrong but it really looks like these guys are trying hard to look after the dam as it holds very good fish.

i think it would be awesome if they could get a lot more members and i urge you to check them out if you are in the area and would like to fish florida contact them and join the club to help make that lake a better place for all i think the more our public dams becomes privatised the safer and also the better our fish will be looked after.

kind regards Philip

good Idea..... Oom piet on 082 493 5527 or Fasel on 084 204 4430 just tell them Philip reffered you should they wonder where you got their contact details.

Membership fees for the year is 250 for specimen anglers and also if you are a new member there is a joining fee of 200,

its really worth it and you can fish whenever you want to only rules that i personally dont like is
1. no boats :-(
2. tents, gazibos etc. must be taken down during the day.

also the dam is STRICTLY catch and release specimen anglers ONLY on the members side. they are working on the safety and generally there are more than 4 guys there over weekends last night there was a father and son that only had their bivvy and they havent had any issues so far.

I don't belong to the club - not taking out a licence for next year for my own reasons !!!

I'll fish on the road side whenever I fish Florida !!!

Sjo R250 a year isnt that cheap. I'm saying this because I used to pay I think R120 a year... As long as the members can see where the money is being used, its probably ok. For example, (not sure if they've sorted it out), but Hennie Hugo dam used to be such a great spot, and you used to be able to fish there too, as a member. But the dam got so clogged up with watergrass, last time I was there it was unfishable. They could clean that dam up and give members a second choice of dams... Anyway, dont want to start anything, just chatting....

Florida Lake is quite close to home and would be a nice spot to fish. I'm just wondering if its safe to stay overnight. is there a secured area for members where the lock the gates?

well from a first hand experience i would say that the dam certainly has massive potential and with proper management (not that im saying the current management isnt) it will yield bEEEg carp on a regular basis. as for security...it seems a tad dodgy at night, but then again we have never had any trouble there. we tend to pick our swims close to the boat club property, so you only need to keep an eye out for the road side.

It's my pleasure Genhiphop - !!!!

The weed at florida is excruciatingly painful to fish - the last time I was there most of the lake was unfishable and we could not get a good spot without the lines laying on the water and becoming clogged with weed.

Florida lake has treated me well for a long time with good fish and also gave me a few good blank sessions

We concentrating on another lake also with huge potential without weed. Be back at Florida in winter !!!

R250 a year is for free.

What is the cost for a 3 day session at Doringdraai? R600 petrol return plus R180 a night and R250 toll fees, return.

The guys are just trying to make it pleasurable and safer to fish and to protect the fish and to administer and mange this is not for free, just the cellphone accounts for this would justify charging an annual fee.

Ja the safety and weed is problems at the moments which they ate addressing i know they are busy in gettign a proper rake etc to clear out the grass and weed.

and MC yeah 250 a year isnt cheap but the thing is you can see exactly where your money is going towards they fixed the toilets etc. so with some proper management that dam will soon be JHB's nr one hotspot hehe :)

R250 is very little. Have a look at what some of the guys with boats pay for their subs!

When I was still in School my friend and his dad where members there, it was R50, so they haven't increased much in 12 years!

i agree its not a lot of money and the nice thing is the managment is really trying to make the lake a beter place for all. and i can promise you with some decent targeting of fish that dam could yield the next SA record. its has a beautiful strain of fish so as soon as the safety gets better Florida lake will florish :):wfish
