Howsit Guys

Myself and Dingo did a session this saturday. The fishing was very quiet but was worth it because we have a new fresh water fisherman (float fishing) that had a stomper of a day.His first official fresh water fish. Well done Dingo on your catches, he managed 3 for the day to my 1.

What was also remarkable was that he caught a black carp, I will post the picture of that tomorrow. Never seen anything like it before. So all in all it was a good session.

Well done

This is the a different black carp that I caught on float last winter. Its not as dark as the one Chris caught this last weekend but quite close, I forgot that I actually caught on before so my statement of never seing one was incorrect.

Nice fish there Lunker. DJP and myself will be doing some winter sessions soon. On the moment the dam levels are very low and the fish are lazy from all this heat the last few weeks.

Unlimited, its that dam that is run by the risidents association. I fished there saturday and not one person came to ask me for a permit so I am assuming that one can fish there again. The float fishing at this place out fishes static fishing anyday. It was proven again, 4 x static rods to 2x float rods and float rods got more fish.

Hannes are the dams really that bad down there? Our problem is that dams are so full from the rain that they dirty and makes fishing very difficult.

i may just be dumb, but why is it called a black carp?? nice n fat though shoe!!
Some younger male fish tend to have a black shadow around and on their fins. They lose it after spawning season and when they get bigger.

Most of the dams i fish are in a bad state. Its not lekke fishing there. Although its very easy to hook them its just not same. Cant wait for those rainy days where the carp feed in the shalows tailing all over the swim and the bubble trail are heading straight to my float....

Hannes you right about the colouration but I dont think its that Because the carp dont spawn in winter and that fatty is a winter carp, the one Chris caught this weekend was a juvenile and its fins were very black and the scales had a dark brown colour to them, its almost like there is something in the dam that they are eating that is changing their colouration. Sounds weird but I know of people who feed KOI some kind of feed to bring out their colours. Bellow is another carp I caught at the same place. And its not like there is only one of its kind because i caught a bigger one 2 months later.

Unlimited, check out the other threads on float fishing, explains everything you need to know on match fishing (float fishing)

D thats why I love that place so much, I wouldnt be surprised if there was koi and grass carp. I have caught over 60 carp from that dam alone. While doing my session I noticed plenty baby carp jumping around along the sides so that dam is very healthy because they are at least breeding. My aim is to find out what is the biggest size carp there and what species of carp?

Someone made a very valid point to me the other session i did, why dont I start tagging the carp and when ever I fish there or someone else fishes there we can see what kind of a population there is and the growth of the fish.

The residence association makes up galons of a special mixture of molases and other stuff and boils it for 48 hours on low heat and pours it into the dam, apparently it kills all polution, my take on that is that the molases mixture is creating a whole new food source for the carp and those buggers are growing at a very rapid pace and not to mention their colouration and shape, the different shapes of carp I have caught there as well is scary.

Bellow is some pics

Dingo, its always a pleasure. Ive got some big float fishing sessions lined up for the rest of the year. Let me know if you are up for it.

This last session was just the beggining. Im currently making some new floats that I want to get out on the market, let me know if you are interested to do some field testing.
