Howzit Guys,

I recently spent a few hours at Inanda dam with John(fishton) to learn a little more about fish finders! Well let me say after all these years at looking at fishfinders both at sea and inland I clearly knew #$*& all. In the 2 hours on the water I learnt so much that I have new respect for fish finders.

Guys if you planning on spending money on technology to find fish or structure or just to get an idea of whats down there you need to get this training!

@ Lemon, most of us dont know how to use our fishfinders to their full capacity so you are one of the lucky few and good on you for giving the man a punt.

@ Fishton I'm sure you can have a fullhouse of eager learners up here in Gauteng or is your course only available in KZN. Without breaking too much of a sweat, I can rustle up 5 guys that will definately be interested in a training session. Must such a training course preferably take place on the water or would a training venue suffice.

Long way to tow my training boat snotslang.

My Cape Town customers fly to Durban, I pick them up at the airport - do the training then get dropped off again in time for flight home.

Has anyone tried the Lorance emulator ?

Idownloaded it, but I have not tried it yet.

I want to get to know my mark 5x pro.

I mounted it, but it gives a lot of surface clutter andit may be because I tried it in a shallow river.

The transducer mounting is in the same place as my previous Lowrance x25B.

If the angle of the transducer is out, will this affect it ?

I mounted it, but it gives a lot of surface clutter andit may be because I tried it in a shallow river.  The only sonar that works well in shallows is high frequency Side Scan.

If the angle of the transducer is out, will this affect it ?  Read and understand the installation guide you received - a few degrees heel (back of transducer) heavy is fine, but a few degrees toe (front of transducer) heavy is disastrous.

I used to know my X25 very well, because I used the echo to find spearfishing spots and the went and looked at the reef or structure.

I may be a bit heel heavy on the transducer, but it is mounted in the same position, as the previous surface skimmer.

I have read the manual properly.

The screen seems less bright than the previous one and I need to set the contrast up.

This thing has too many menus and settings.

I downloaded the emulator, from the Lowrance website and it really helped with getting to know the menu functions.

This echo really is the business, once you get to know it.

I spent yesterday, in the bay, going to look for my old spots and I really enjoyed working with the Mark 5X Pro.

It reads the bottom perfectly at 18 knots and after I adjusted the transducer, it forms a perfect fish arch.::S

My brother and I flew down to Durban last Wednesday for a sonar training session with Fishton. We were met at the airport and zipped off to Inanda Dam where we spent a couple of hours on the water and quickly realised that we knew very little, within 2 hours we had learnt a helluva lot. We were dropped off at the airport with a lot of sonar knowledge and beer time to spare.

If you are looking to purchase a fishfinder or you currently own one, I suggest you attend this training course, its worth it. We all spend big bucks on equipment and then dont know how to use it to its full potential, it does not make sense.

All in all we had a great time laughing and learning at the same time, a big thank you John, from Ric & myself.
