Hi Willem, Nicely done. I am thinking about visiting st lucia during the long weekend in Sept, targetting eds. Hows the garrick and kob fishing in Sept along the main beaches at st lucia? will be (hopefully) using livies.

September is a very good time to fish st lucia.
shad is always available, you just need to know where to find them.
this means, covering ground.

the kob fishing is a sad story...…
they might be around.....but not in numbers.
no open mouth means no bait around.
so why would they want to visit the shores?

as long as you put in the hours, you will get rewarded.

so, things are starting to happen up north!!!!!
shad not in abundance at st lucia as such, but plenty full at maphelane bay.

another friend of mine, Piet from Pretoria managed to get 2x geets!!!
both on live shad.

and another geet of 21kg
both took live shad

so knowing where to hunt them, will obviously give you a much better chance in hooking and landing them

I had to get into the action myself!!!!
so I left on Tuesday morning.
the surf was up and big so no fishing was done on Tuesday.

the idea was to see if we could get another gt in the cold august water.

had some good pulls, most of them were sharks!!!
also did some free swimming with live shad and was only bitten off.

managed to land a rock salmon, my first.
also a smaller black tip shark
1x fair sized sand shark.

not much structure at st lucia!!!
just a very long gulley, which means the shad would not hold up in 1 place.

shad is thick at cape vidal.
fair amount of shad at mapelane.

garricks were seen feeding in mapelane bay shallows!!!
2x kingies were seen smashing bait fish.

water was very cold!!!!!
to such a extent that I nearly got cramps in my feet.
this was not good for kingies!!! but good for Garrick.

only 5x Garrick was landed for the week at st lucia, which again is very poor
1x salmon of about 12kg came out on a live shad.

some days we had good pulls, 6x a day and 4 pulls the other day.

so fish were around at times!!!!

I walked about 80km for the week.
have been training well before trips as one will not last, when trying this.

please note, this is not for the faint hearted!!!!
its either in your blood or not.
we are a bunch of guys who really work hard in this way, looking and walking until we get structure and then take it from there.

so many guys always want to join on such a trip.
I have come to the conclusion, that they only tend to slow me down and frustrate one as it is always a race against time, they do not know what it takes and do not understand all aspects.

this I now understand, why my friends always fished alone, if you wanted to tag along, you were welcome.
but that you had to learn on your own, most of the things

got this female sandy on a double up.
the other rod trace was bitten through though.

hard to fish alone, when things go right....but wrong.
fighting for 15 minutes flat out, 500 meters out and the 2nd rod start to go!!!!

so when I was bitten off eventually...I still had to reel in the sinker 500meters out.

by the time the sinker was back, the sandy was nearly 300meters out.

came in quickly but was very stubborn on the lip
