Theres a new rod out by Shimano - the Exage 110... it's only 11 foot, HMG, Fuji guides and is rated to cast a NINE oz sinker - ie: capable of pulling a Big fish?!?! Amazing technology, but it just doesn't feel balanced to put anything more than a s30 reel on there?? Use it, don't use it.

You fish for a club right? If u looking to fish for ineds and typically we all want the biggest one we can find then will it be a wise decision to purchase the beachmaster? (a bit soft to handle big throw baits or slides) Have u thort bout using rods from within your club and picking which one suits your style best? With a little more insight to wat is available perhap u would be making a more informed decision..

I agree with Master. I own a beachmaster. Its an amazing rod. But seeing that u will be targetting only sharks/in eds i would not advise you to buy this rod. I throw a 7 ounce on the heavy and the tip handles it perfectly. I WOULD NOT advise throwing a 8 ounce or higher on that tip. I have tried and found the rod to be very top heavy. The Heavy tip has a distinct bend in it. That being with a 8ounce.
Now imagine if you decide to throw a whole mack out. The total weight of the bait plus sinker is gonna exceed it max rating
I would call the Beachmaster the perfect edible rod. Yes, it will handle Sharks, but i think anything over the 30kg mark is gonna be really difficult land. The rod simply does not have that kind of pulling power.

Not sure of what size sharks you want to catch but the Loomis and Franklin shockwave is a good deal. It has 3 tips light (3 to 4 ounce) medium (5 to 6) and heavy (7 to 8). It is also not heavy and priced at about R1000.00 so there is still money left over to buy braid....

L & M shockwave is the biggest pile of rubbish!Don't go there!!!!
Take up the suggestion to try out some rods first. The Assassin range is great but it depends on your budget hey. Beachmaster is great for catching greys and other smaller sharks but hasn't been designed for the bigger stuff ie if you're goin to slide baits (BIG baits) etc

L and F shockwave is only wrapped once at the joints.
Posiedon is double wrapped
And rods like the exage are triple wrapped.
In my experience the shock wave is great LIGHT rod.Hook a big shark though and kiss it goodbye.

Posieden is sort of in the middle.
Had this told to me at Somerset Sports in Cape Gate where i bought my Posieden.
I do not vouch for the truth in this , but if you look at rod diameters it does sort of pan out

There 2 rods that i'm keeping my eyes on aand thats the Tica 13ft and 10 ft,
Sinker class both can throw 8oz as a recommended weight, these rods have lots of whip in it whenit is loded and is extremely light by comparison to most rods, Has nybody tried or know of anybody thats used them.... stockists here in Cape Town is Suburban & Tuckers. price is between R1400 an R1600

One item though , I also have a 1468 and my experience is the opposite of yours.
Lots of back bone , very little action , especially on the heavier tips.Too me the lighter tips are too whippy and the heavier tips too stiff for the rod.
Different strokes for different folks
Is it possible to set up a post just for rods with a break down of actions.Maybe get Barry to comment?
Maybe ask all the guys to do a simple test ie:
a) Set the rod parallel to the floor in a vice ( Fully rigged with line and reel)
b) Attach a x weight sinker to the line
c) Measure the rod deviation from parallel at 4/5 points across the length.
This should allow us to see the following
a: How consistant a manufacturer is with their blanks
b: The actual action of a rod ( Whippy , stiff , heavy , light)
c:Tip action or butt action
d: How much load a blank can accept for maximum performance
Let me know if anybody is interested and I will get the ball rolling
