Aston Lake 21.02.2010
After numerous attempts to fish the right side of the lake (never catching more than 5) we discussed a couple of new game plans which includes fishing the left side of the bank. The bank was thought to be very shallow, but we discovered a beauty of a spot.
The water temperature was nice and hot early in the morning and stayed constant throughout the day. We had some extremely funny weather before 8am which included immensely thick mist. It was partly cloudy early in the morning, but later gave way to clear skies.
The water depth was between knee and waist height about 5 steps from the bank.
The first trace was loaded and pushed in skew…! The bom consisted of Original and a hand full of Jungle Oats. The boldip was Hot Honey and FX. The hooks were loaded with swd prepared with dam water. About 40min later I landed the biggest carp for the day. What a joy!
This was the first carp of 11 for the day. We lost 4 in the reeds to the right and left of our swim. We didn’t start a feeding spot (as part of the plan), but tried to keep our bombs in the general vicinity. We also tried to cast our feed were ever we could see fish turning.
I discovered (by accident) that Banjo, Stuttafords O and little FX worked like a charm. All the remaining fish were caught on the combo. Some fish also took a brown bead made from vanilla, caramel and custard.
The average bite tempo was 40+ minutes.
Other dips that worked: Cherry + Stuttafords, Banana and Vaaldam, Hot Honey and Looti (lots).
The trace used was 20 cm long with hook lengths of 9cm (top) and 11cm (bottom). I didn’t use any M weights and opted for springs. I unfortunately don’t know what size hooks I use, but it is Linx. The hook is small enough to fit a floatie and a small kappie (4mm).
This was a very successful day fishing and the family also enjoyed the sun.
