PRIMKOP DAM
WHITE RIVER
I visited my brother in the lowveld when we decided to try Primkop Dam. It’s situated just outside White River close to the new airport.
Upon arrival we got a decent looking spot and fed about 20 bolls at 50 mtrs. It looked promising as the fish was breaking the water on a regular basis. Some of them were actually clearing the water.
The facility was well maintained and the toilets had warm water and decent sanitation. We also had electricity which ensured a real comfortable trip.
I started of with floats on the one rod and swd on the other rod. I kept to the basics and gradually went through my dips. I rebaited my rods every 1h – 1h30 min depending what time of the day it was. It was partly cloudy for most of the session, but it was extremely hot.
We managed to catch 5 catfish during the night, but didn’t even produce one carp for the entire session (2 days, 2 nights). It was very disappointing; as we could see the fish on the area we fed our bom.
I changed my rigs to all different hook lengths and weight sizes…..
Would anyone be able to tell me how to approach spawning carp as we noticed some huge carp in the shallows on the opposite bank?
What is the best tactic in your opinion when fishing a new venue?
What are the best dips to start your sessions?
I will post my pics as soon as I downloaded them from my phone.
