Fishing out of Simons Town Advise needed…

Good day Gentlemen,

After many unsuccessful missions at R&S fishing along the Melkbos beaches a friend of a friend has offered me a chance to go out on his yacht for the day and do a spot of fishing at the same time. I would love to catch some Yellow Tail (if they’re around) but anything would be a bonus…

My questions are:

1. Where would be the best area to aim for with the best chance of catching any fish?

2. What would be the best species to try and catch?

3. What sort of tackle/bait/etc. to take along?

Any advice and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers Carl

Can one fish form a yacht? Are you going to sail or is it one of those facy big boats not design for fishing - more for drinking and sleeping!

There are a lot of FBYC member on sealiner, I am also one, that could assist.

Are your perpared to go with is yacht between the boats of the commercial fleet or not.

Think the best places is Rocky Bank, Bellows and the reefs there. Cheapest - Tackle - 100/120lb handline with a yamashuta squid and treble hook and pull it behind the yacht on Rocky Bank at about 15 to 20 meters at about 7 to 8 knots.

Hi Hamco

Firstly thanks for your response I need all the help I can get.

Not sure what type of yacht it is but I assume you can fish from it. I don’t know how far he’s prepared to go as far as commercial fleet etc. but I just saw it as an opportunity to fish off something other than the beach and to have some deeper water under my rod tip. I was thinking of some bottom fishing or jigging of some sort. I definitely take along a hand line to trawl as you have suggested.

Thanks again for your help and any other comments or suggestions greatly appreciated.
