Fishing Mossel Bay

Hi i will be in mossel bay from the 17 to the 21st October and will be staying here:
http://www.africanoceans.co.za

From what i gather its right on the beach. Never having fished mossel bay what fish would be best to target during this time and at which places if possible?

Does the wind work the same as in kzn where 3 days of NE is best and what is the best baits that normally produce.

I do not mind fishing for edibles or in edibles, or both :)

Any advice will be highly appreciated.

thanks

Amith,

There has been various threads re - Mosselbay, Garden Route etc. Suggest you look them up.

Winds are different than the North coast. Main winds here being SE and SW.

Good luck

I fish Mosselbay area regularly, depends what you wanna target. Between Hartenbos and kleinbrak there is some nice holes producing anything from kob to musselcracker. Boggomsbaai is producing some nice kobbies at the moment, paddle tails seems to do the job or sliding live mullet.

Also heard that there is some smallish kob but sizers coming out at Dannabaai, derdestrand. Just walk towards boggomsbaai you'll find some nice fishing spots and holes. Also cobbies at rooiwalle, its halfway between dannabaai and boggoms.

Fransmanshoek has had some big bronzies showing, and aparently some musselcracker. Also kleinbrak river and gourits river is showing some kob and then grunter as per usuall.

If during your stay you want to know what bites where, go see Shawn from Go Fish at the spar or Oom Jan from extreme outdoors in Langeberg mall. They should be able to give you some updates on what's happening where.

I don't think the big leeries are back yet. Will be fishing the saal (Fransmanshoek) on Thursday for Nunu's and Cracker, will post an update if we had any luck.

Enjoy and stywe lyne!!

Lofty het die krakers al begin lyf wys by die punt en by beneke? Hul behoort nou te begin roer. En hoe lyk dinge by kanon? Is daai bank al weg voor oom Jannie se huis?

200ts all of the above comments you can listen to. But just like lofty said, this time of the year red bait "is Baas".
The big cob should be coming out as well. If you want an up to date review of where the fish are biting then go to one of the tackle shops like Bergievisserman mentioned, the owners will gladly help you.

Okay, I will assist a little and give you some pointers to the area. I dont know what your target species would be but that stretch of coast where you stay has some excellent ed fishing and in eds as well...

I would mainly target cracker, belman, kob, hotties, and steenbras if I were you as the beach in front of you offers great catches. As for bait you can pump some pink prawn(Hartenbos) and this will give you some awesome catches and work for ALL the above mentioned species! White mussel is also good and all of them eats it as well and the chokka and pilchard for kob and steenies and also crab for cracker and steenies.

You can work all along the openings in the rocks and around "die pyp" and benekes. My favourite is to fish the rocks between Kleinbrak and Hartenbos as you could catch ANYTHING there, even some good red fish.

There is some very big belman and steenbras along that whole piece of coast from DIAZ to Kleinbrak and lots of biiggg cracker. Choose your bait carefully and also the hook size. When going for Hotties, go to the rocks between Kleinbrak and Hartenbos, use a small hook(nr 10 to a 1/0) with a very small float in front of the hook and use a very thin piece of chokka with pink prawn combo. The hotties get very big there!

If you want more advise feel free to contact me on 074 813 5993. I am always willing to help.

Stywe lyne!

Hy wou n vis gaff by leonards baai. Baie groot verskil. Gaff is soms nodig om jou te beskerm as jy by gevaarlike plekke vang. Ek het niks daar teen nie. Ek spring net op my perd as iemand n vis van die strand af wil gaff of by plekke waar dit nie nodig is nie.
By die saal sal jy altyd n gaff by my kry, daai plek het ek baie respek voor.

Katot ek stem grootliks saam met jou... Maar daar is plekke waar jy soms op die strand op hoog water ook a gaff gaan nodig he. Anders maak jy die haai so moeg hy sal waarskynlik vrek.

So as die haai links gaan gaan saam de ou!!!
