fishing license

hey guys and galz
thought i would ask you if you think that the current fishing license set up is working for you or if you think it should be changed.

i was standing at the post office the other day watching the poor oke have to fill out three of those horrible license forms (for my boet, ballie and myself) and i thought, would it not be easier if they created a system whereby anglers could get a card like a drivers license that can just get scanned each time it needs to be checked or renewed. surely this would be easier, maybe more expensive at first, but then everyone is on a database and if you overfish or whateva it gets put on your record and if you get more than three strikes(no pun intended) you are not permitted to get another license or something?
maybe they could take it as far as having a test that each angler writes, something on catch limits, size limits etc, something basic but essential?
anyway i just thought it would make life easier for us all and maybe even lessen the poatching of our fish stocks due to better knowledge. and they won't run out of forms...
anyway just a thought...what do you people reckon?

thats a good idea but the form i had to fill in was a one pager,all they wanted was adress,id number,phone and which license and sign

as easy as that
what i would like is to be able to renew my license online and not having to stand in those shit long q's and the obese lady behind you poking you in your back with her over sized boobs
but i dont wana do the test thing,i just cary a page with limits aswell with my license in my fishing bag

Now THAT would be something !!! Writing a test, great stuff !!!
The only hassle, is the administration of that, then fake licences etc.
As it stands, the current licence cant be properly policed.

But i really hope that we can get something like that, it would go a long way in educating !

imagine how long you would have to wait to write the test if its anything like trying to apply for a learners licence...by the time anglers have managed to get their fishing licences they would need to lift all retrictions on angling as there would be an over abundence of fish lol

sticking to the original topic, i was recently on the same day asked for my permit by 3 different sets of officials. they now carry a portable device on which they captured all my details ie permit no. name, catch and time etc.

This is a major bugbear of mine. How impractical to give a piece of paper to people who spend a lot of time around water and who has to produce it around water and wind. Why not a driver's license/gun licence type card. This imo would be far more pratical albet a tad more expensive.

as far as i am aware, the only times anything is recorded on the back is for crayfish...everytime i have been asked to produce my license by an inspector there has been nothing written on the back by them. the okes walking around with those portable magobies are not the officials, they are gathering stats on catch etc, at least in cape point reserve they are not so one is not compelled to give them anything...if they have a problem then they can report me to the inspectors

To be realy honest i have ben buying a license now year after year i havent ben ask't once by the parkys to dissplay... but yet i still buy one because the day you dont have it on you is the day they rock up and ask! but well i just would like to see the parks boad train there local field officials better, some of them cant even tel the difference  between a grunter and a shad...

It would be mutch better if they went back to the old aluminium tags we used to have in the old days, then they used to send you a renewal form in the post, used to fill it in and send it back, tag was sent to you in the post. No standing in cues or having to take time off work to go down to dept of sea fisheries to get licences that the post office dosn't issue anymore etc etc.

these are officials; i encounter them every 2 weeks when i go to collect bait and i dont see any reason to be aggro against these guys. they are friendly and doing their jobs.

The problem with any new system will be qualified management and policing thereof which as we all know is non existant in goverment departments.
