Have any of you actually ever been asked to show them ?

went to test a lure in the river on Saturday morning, 2nd cast and the white bakkie stopped and I was asked, not a problem I have one.

same can't be said about a few other people, wonder how much the damage was for them.

It's the first time that I have ever been asked.

Was fishing early on a sunday morning at strandfontein and a bakkie stopped with two officials. Both were in unoform and were very polite and friendly. Asked for licences, and were on their way.

Same here, the guy was all dressed up, and extremely friendly.
We were talking k@k and making jokes about falling on the slipways, the one I was standing on is VERY slippery ...
He still waited while I reeled in, and walked with me to the Landy, checked and off he went to the other people.

Don't mind being asked (especially since I have one) ...

Guys while on the topic of licenses--- How many rods are you allowed to fish in the sea with? I am not sure because you hear about or see a guy with a rod in hand and another in the pension pipe.

Been asked a couple of times at Macasser, the inspectors are really friendly.

The one inspectors main aim was to nail the guys driving on the beach and in the dunes, and im behind him all the way!

People must realise that they are just doing there job and if you dont have your license on you, and you give the inspector sh1t, he will fine you.

Hi Simen!I was asked same question on Saturday and there was speculation that you're allowed to fish with 2 rods and 1 hook per rod.need to confirm that though.Cheers!

Simen, I stand to be corrected but I do not think there is a limitation on the number of rods that you may fish with. There is, however, a limitation on number of hooks per line - ten I think.

In KZN I have been asked many times for my license, they even searched through my bait box on 2 occasions.

Now and then I end up having a conversation with the guys.

They not bad okes just doing their jobs and ensuring some idiots dont push the law.

Frequetly. The officials have always been friendly.

I always have one. The feeling is as good as going through a speed trap and not speeding. More money to spend on fishing.

I agree, .........only in Nam is there a limit on rods.

I get asked for my permit fairly frequently, also by people doing research.    In fact this latter lot was getting a nuisance and I told them to note my number in their palmtop computer as I don't want to dig out my permit every time.

In California anglers need to display their permit visibly, but at least its waterproof, not a scrap of paper like here.

Guys come on!
Read the document posted just the other day about the new regulations. It clearly states that 10 hooks may be used. There is no mention of a limit on how many rods you may use.

apologies carch

i wasn't aware that it was posted.

an interesting point to note is that it states "only with [glow=red]A[/glow] rod....

does that literally mean one rod or not?  ::balance:

Ive never had trouble with having more than one rod but you never know what these regulations really mean. Some are really open to interpritation.
I also cant understand 10 hooks unless you are catching bait from a boat.

No apologies needed.
I was actually wrong, no need to be short with you or anybody else. We all need all the help we can get.
