Fishing in Richards Bay

Howsit guys,

Where are the best places to fish here in the bay? Iv'e just got back from a weekend at Mapelan. I'm working here now and want to try this place out.I'm looking for Sharks, skates or sandies.

Howzit Tbone.  Two guys I suggest you try get a hold of Are Khalaharikid, Couta-Koppie and Big Matt.  You can pm them here on Sealine.  These guys have really been tops in showing me the ropes around the Bay.  Hopefully we can meet up soon.

KK is defiantely the man with regards to fishing any of the surf areas around. couta koppie/Henry from fishzone seems to always know whats going on where. he is very much into the dropshot thing.

i can suggest make friends with someone who has south pier access. KK can vouch for the Kob that lurk around there!

we should defiantely meet. have a bay social etc

Ya we should get together hey, there are a couple of us here that love fishing. Iv'e heard alot about south Peer would love to stick a bait out there. Let me know when and where and we will try and meet you guys there.

We fish north of richardsbay a lot, most of the places you need a 4x4, some not ,so if you keen let us know. We can meet and go together difficult to explain some spots as there are no roads , can only show you the spots.

I went to Mapelan last weekend, the water was quite cold tho. Got a 27kg black tip on sunday morning.There were about 20 people fishing there that weekend and nobody got a pull. Was very quiet for mapelan..

nice catch!

reminds me of BDay bash 2008, sitting on the beach all night with bugger all!

mapelan has slowed down considerably from what i hear? in its day it was apparently a mecca!

Security is no problem there, all the guys leave thier equipment lying outside and iv'e never heard of anything being stolen. You can get beach permits there but they only allow 3 a day, you get them from the gate at 5am and i think its R250 for the day. Saw 2 guys get horribly stuck on sat and the tide was comming in, but thats cause they were driving mazda's. Its such a jol there, we drink more than what we fish, nice place for a boys weekend.
