Fishing Gear

Hi guys, I really would like some advice with the choice of gear I should get. This past weekend I went for my first proper fishing trip to the Vaal. I honestly did not think I would of had as much fun as I did it was a blast!!! I have a highly stressful job and when I went away it was the most relaxing experience ever. So now I'm really keen to get into this hobby. So this is where the problem lies... I don't really know much about equipment and what I should get but talking to mates of mine that are heavy into the fishing scene say I can't go wrong with Daiwa. So I found the black widow 12 foot 3.5 inch rod and black widow bait n run reel combo. Do you think that would be adequate for fishing at the Vaal, please bear in mind that I would like to do mostly carp fishing but if I feel I want to go for a barbel I would like the gear to be able to take it and not struggle or break!! My mate pulled in an 18kg babel over the weekend and that just made me lis Hahahahaha!!! But please if someone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated as I am a newbie. Thanks in advance

The black widows r great entry level rods and you wont go wrong with them. And I am sure you meant to 3.5 tc and not inches lol. Yes that combo would be fine for the vaal.
Good luck and tight lines

Yip the Black Widow are very capable rods( i think they are very under rated). My uncle uses them for specimen fishing and has landed plenty 10KG+ carp on them with no problem.

A friend of mine got one and fished with it this past weekend. i has a few casts and managed to get an extra 10m+ on my current rods so i am impressed( so will want to look at getting a pair as well. They will also be more than capable of catching big barbel.
