I just recently lost all of my fishing gear due to a burglary. I need advice from all the experts on sealine on what to buy. I need to get the prices thru to the insurance guys urgently. I need something for a beginner. i am relativly new to the fishing scene. I have got the specs for my dropshot setup, seeing that i bought it about six months ago. i need you guys to guide me to buy the best rod and reel for surf fishing or reef fishing. I need a good allrounder.

Hey henry
For spinning reals i would recommend the Daiwa BG series. they solid reals and are good for rock and surf. if you wanting to go with a multiplier i would say that the Daiwa SL series is tops for starting out. SL30, 40, 50 they strong enough for all the edibles and will give you a chance if you hook a shark. not sure off price but maybe around R800. hope this helps. sorry about the robbery... crime in this country!:-(

Sorry to hear about your mishap...

Anyone of the following brands would be good for a beginner and you wouldn't need to upgrade for sometime or only if you going to chase sharks. Shimano 1446, Poseidon , Assassin Beachmaster, Loomis & Franklin, Blue Marlin G3. Take note that these are all multi piece rods. I see you didn't specify multi piece or not.

Reels my personal choice is any Diawa 30(50 will hold more line), for the casting and its a good reel and will match up with any of those rods mentioned above. Also the shimano 2040, Speedmaster IV,Torium 30 or 20. (30 more line).Don't know of any other good reels Penns and Abu's are a bit pricey and parts are always hard to get by.

Hope this Helps

Hey Henry,

I have a Loomis & Franklin, 14ft rod with a Torium 30. It works like a dream!! It will also last a lifetime if you look after it! The Torium 30 holds about 420m of .50mm Kingfisher Giant Abrasion. It's perfect for rock & surf fishing and reef fishing. Just for interest sake, what takle did you have before it got stolen?
