I realized this past sunday how fishing next to features will increase your amount and size of fish you catch. We were at Oberon  more for a social (jeesh oberon is nasty) and not so much for fishing. The guy next to me fished with plain floaties 15m from the bank around a dead tree (boom stomp), he caught all te bigger fish and 3 fish for every 1 we caught. I was fishing at about 150m and later at 30m from the side and 20m to the left of that tree. Same bait and rigs and all and nada. His biggest was 6kg and smallest 1.5kg. Kinda makes you feel k@k when u pull out your stands, alarms and bait boat and nice equipment etc and he is sitting with game combo's hehe

 

But anyway just thought i mentioned this little experience ive gained.

Features like dead trees, watergrass etc provide safety for carp so they often stay close to these, like bass do as well. And these features also hold more natural food than out in the open... but it can also be a risk, as you can lose fish around such features...
