ok guys,i was at mapelane from the 03/05 to 06/05 and it was a disaster. We thought everything was starting out well when we had no problems getting there and then got told that the rates had droped to R35.00 per person.
To make a long story short we fished to the max for all 3 days only stoppingto go back to camp for a good meal once a day,to shower and use the toilet for about 3 hrs a day.the rest of the time our lines where in the water.
we fished the surf and estury,we used spoons, dropshot, chokka, sardines, bonnies and mackeral.we got a small shad on the spoon in the surf and the guy next to us got the biggest stumpie i ever seen in my life, about 450mm.
but that was everythingwe caught, the bay between the shore and reef is full of sand and only about 1.5 meters deep right through to st lucia and the mouth is closed.i blame the sand bank for most of our bad fishing bust must also add that one of the locals went to crayfish point and caught a total of 70 fish yes 70 FISH.they where small kingies, shad, stumpnose and pompano,he had to make three trips on foot back to go fetch them.so if you going to mapelane plan on taking a long walk to crayfish point.it seems like the only place still fishable there and worth the walk.
tight lines all
