Went fishing at cape st. francis yesterday.
Foul hooked this poor bugger through the gills. Have caught them from time to time usually when the water is cold. Someone once told me its a butterfish and then again a fingerfin and also heard the name steenklipvis. are those all the same specie or is it something else.

This one comes up a lot and Trier has posted some great pics here.

I've caught two at Harbour Island in Gordon's Bay, biggest about 25cm and tasty!  More info available on FishBase - click the pic below.

Two-tone fingerfin

howdy lads

i get loads of em at fish hoek, i stratch around the kelp with bass tackle chokka blob baits and always hook two or three per spot, i always wondered what they were. they would look awesum in an saltwater tank

It is the same family as the bank steenbras and is a twotone fingerfin. ( chirodactylus brachidactylus ) spelling ?

You get the black bankie Chirodactilus grande and the pink bankie Chirodactylus jessicalenorum, named after len jones' wife jessica, who identified it.
