Fish Finders for kayaks

Hi guys, been looking around and I've noticed there are some really affordable fish finders on the market. Got a couple of questions for the paddleski crowd here on Sealine.

How do you mount the transducers such that they work properly?

What frequency is needed to make the the fish finder truly useful?

And lastly does a fishfinder only make a difference in really deep water? Will it help in say an estuary in 2 - 5m of water?

You can find fish with a finder on a kayak. but mostly it is used to find dropoffs,depth and struckture.

Think about it. The transducer pings at a conical angle of 60 degrees .So at a depth of 2 metres your sonar will cover only about a 30cm circle on the bottom. Still great to know where the dropoffs are. No need for high frequensy on kayak as we fish very shallow. and mostly dont need to clear a picture.

That said its always a good idea to get good quality gear on your kayak its not fun to struggle with electronics when out at sea.

Transducer mounting can be done in different ways depending on what type of ski you have. for lagoon fishing I will get a suction cup mount. easy to use and you could take it out and wash afterwards. to inhabit the dreaded corosion. especially on the cheaper units.
