I have just got a bass boat and i am kitting it out slowly $$$$$$. I need some advise on what fishfinder to purchase. I have some basic knowledge of fishfinders (never used one, only read about em) but don't want to buy something with functions and capabilities that I will never use. Also I don't want to be under spec on a fish finder and have to buy a better one a while later. Price must also be reasonable of coarse.

If you get a Handheld GPS. The GPS/Fish finder is something you mount on the boat and needs power from the boats batteries. So will not work in your car

12 volts is 12 volts. Car or Boat. My question is does it have all the same functions as a normal garmin gps? Does it have all the road maps etc. FRom what I have discovered with electronics they very seldom have all of what u want, in one device.

It works the same as any GPS. Waypoint and tracks and all that. But it is a GPS for fishing so it does not come with road maps. But the functions are more or less the same. There are not even any maps available for this unit of our dams.
Would be interesting to see if you can load something like the garmin maps on them. But what you need to remember is that the GPS receiver is a separate unit. So if you could get that to work in your car with the road maps then you would have to buy a second GPS receiver or move that one with every time and you would have to buy a second set of cables
