Hi all

Im in the market for a boat (R80 000 - R130 000).

I have never owned a boat and have no idea what to look for in a nice fishing boat.

What type of hull?

What type of motors?

Size motors?

Reliable ?

Service and repair prices?

Certificates?

If there is anything that you can give me advice on please help!

Its a lot of money and I dont want to regret it after I have bought it!

Hi,

Let's start with some basics.
1. You will need to get a skippers ticket. Not difficult.
2. Decide what you will use the boat for. Deep sea / freshwater etc.
3. What do you have to tow the boat with?
4. Who will crew, how many people on board capable of handling pushing loading the boat.
5. What size boat bearing in mind it is 1 person per meter of boat.
6. How far do you need to tow?
7. Where will you be using the boat.

Hi

I want to use it for saltwater fishing.

I will be towing with a Landrover TD5 Defender and will be towing from JHB 3 to 4 times a year.

Sometimes the crew will only be two. But if we only two we will look for a easy to launch site. But is there not some help at the launch site to give a hand. At the popular launch sites like Sodwana,Cape Vidal, Shelly beach ......

What must I look for in a boat thats not to difficult to launch,handle and land?

Im looking at the CAT hull but there are so many different types and it looks like the Yamaha is the more popular motors.But Im open for suggestions.

But then we get to the size of motors. If I go to big the fuel cost might be to much and if I go to small launching will be difficult.

I would like something that is forgiving on a inexperience skipper.

What is all the accesories needed?

What certificates must be up to date when I buy it?

Safety equipment?

Sorry for all the stupid questions but if someone dont tell me Im going to burn my money and it will putt me off on boating

the perfect solution for you ....

1.easy to tow long distances
2. easy to launch and retrieve even in spring low conditions
3.one of the safest hulls to be on(nsri uses this hull)
4.great fishing platform
5. with those engines the power to weight ratio will be awesome


if i didnt love my boat as much as i do id be all ove this one...

Well I think you are looking for something in the 16' class with 2 x 40 or 50 hp motors. 2-stokes are fine if only using it a few times a year.

On a budget, maybe look for a clean Kosi cat. A nice one will cost about R130k. For a few extra bucks look at a Yamaha Seacat. Also light easy to tow but it has better finish quality and ride.
