What type of rod do you intend using and what are your target species, bud, will make it easier for everyone to give you better advice

Those options by Zeyn are brilliant allrounders, the speedmaster can even go after bigger fish

Im not sure yet on the rod I will first have to see how much money i get For my b-day but I was planing on using my 10 foot okuma rod for the man time until I get a rod and my target species are edibles

My first multiplier was a Penn500, bought a Grandwave40 last January and combined it with an Okuma 13ft, worked well. On your 10 foot go with the sl30. I think due to potential budget constraint have a look at the Omoto-10, very nice reel and seems well constructed, can get it for under R500 from my local tackle supplier. Adrenalin rods are also great value for money as an entry point, prices vary from R500-R1300 for hmg

Have you shown your dad the penn 49 that you striped and cant get together now. If not, hide the thing. He is going to M@@R you. Is there annybody in Capetown that can help the chap with reasembling the reel. :fbash

My father already know's about the reel he was a bit ticked of at first but it was his instructions for me to do it.

I'll give it a look, i service my own 49 and 85, they are not that difficult unless you lost a part....

I use a speedmaster and in my opinion the reel runs better if you are casting a heavier sinker. a 10ft rod might be a bit light for the reel, especially off the sand. But thats just my opinion. The daiwa seems more at ease with a lighter sinker, i cast a 7 or 6 ounce on my setup for example.

I still cast light sinkers on the speedmaster at langebaan, so perhaps it could work.

if the penn is fixed I won't use the 10 foot my father has to of those old rods (very heavy) and im not sure if I lost any parts but one of the side plates is cracked I super glued it together it looks alright now. Im not sure if its actually worth the effort putting it together again?

i agree with Habib a sl30 daiwa or saltist 30 are great reels. i tend to find the sl50 , torium 30 to bulky
