First session of new season

First session of the new season (new season for us I guess) went down pretty good. Hannes 101 and I decided to try a new venue with some new tackle. Armed with 9ft Sensation Passion sticks and shimano slades with 10lb braid we wanted to land the brutes that messed us up last year with our 5lb mono on fly rods. So off we went to the new venue with some bread and 1/0 circle hooks (the only hooks we seem to own lately) and soon we had some activity in our swim. In total we landed 2 catfish and 3 carp, a bluegill and some bass (the latter caught on cigarette pack foil). Some pics to follow, one of these days we will be into the double figures^^..

another beut landed by hannes101, like I said hopfully some time soon we'll get stuck into some reall brutes, the tackle I must say I super for the type of fishing we do, probably more coarse than match fishing but what the heck it produces!

good session with good results. Now just to get those big mothers to take the bait. Have to ad this is unfished water so these carp and cats don't even know whats bread. Think we were lucky to find them and get them to take the bait.

We need a spot were we can make a swim with some ground bait...otherwise I dont see that we can use any other tactics than those we did. Maybe go after some rain with natural baits, but then we're just going to hook up with one cat after the other...

We made a quik cast this afternoon at the spot, managed to land two carp, missed about 5 fish each, lost a brute (think it was a cat that took me into some structure lesson learned).

Caught another interesting carp looks like a gost carp or carp/koi hybrid.

Look at the fins, eye and the way the scales are pigmented.

Hi

It's a Ghost carp which is caused by cross breeding.

They are all the more common and there is a good population of them in Bronkies and strangely they are more common in the Baja area than the reserve area.

The first one does have unusually large fins for it's size but one often gets stumpy fat or long thin carp

The second is correctly proportioned but with coulour distinctions.

I haven't found a full description on what the cause is but if you look closely you can see that the skin on those fish is almost transparent and you can see the skull underneath.

It would almost seem as if it is a slighter case of albino / causeing a lack of skin pigments?

I'll have a look into some UK sites to see if the Carp Fundi's make comment on it but those are Ghost carp not Koi.

Cool thanks Enigma, I cant help but think it has something to do with were we catch them as well, crystal clear water at a depth of about +5m.

Yes, didnt actually target bass but they are there, takes some alternative tactics to catch them in the deep, suspending stickbaits, dropshot (US style) and zara spooks for the smallies.
