First fish on dropshot

FLUKE

Sealiner
At last, after deciding to try dropshot and experimenting(and much constructive debate on sealine) with rods and reels I finally settled on the tackle I wanted and aquired the rod and reel and a few packets of dropshot soft plastics. I was just starting to get frustrated after a few fruitless trips when a early morning trip of about an hour produced 2 Bartail Flatheads(about 40cm I guess). Attached is a photo of the first one. They both took a Gulp 3" minnow in New Penny colour on a 1/8 jighead.

Well Done Fluke....This brings back lots of my Aussie memories.

My first fish in Aus was also a Flathead of about 45cm.....In Aus flathead will normally be the first fish you catch on Dropshot.....they are all over and easily take soft lures.

They are also great eating with a soft white yummy meat.

So true Zulu. Always remember that when you eat that soft white meat of the tasty Flathead, to take a black marker pen and mark your finger tips. This will prevent you from biting them off.:lol:1

To add to this, the tastiest Flatties are between the 30cm and 50cm long....longer than 50cm the meat has a dry texture after cooking.

On many Aus fish sites I have read that Flatties are all male and turn female after 60cm....

So don't kill those over 50cm. If caught take a pic….put them back into the drink and the show the pic off to your all your mates……they are the to become breeders
