My buddie emigrated to Aus end Dec and just me this pic of his first cast in Aus. The info he gave me is as follows:

Shovelnose of 2490mm (87kg) 18lb test .70mm leader.
Fight two hours.
bonito head as bait
exactly 7 min into my first cast.

Now people ask me why I want to emigrate to Australia....

I wonder how long it will be before sliding catches on there too...with results like that!!! I assume he slid the bait, cos that's a pretty big bait to throw, lol!

He's on the sunshine coast near Mooloolaba if that makes sense

Thats a fantastic first catch , yip its a long way away from me .... think i chose the wrong city !:fbash

Iv put in serious hrs and haven't seen a sandy , which doesn't really surprise me as anything that swims here almost always ends up on the plate !

He gunna blank some time soon and then he gunna feel like the rest of us.. Like traveling all the way to H.I.T.W and spending a week only to blank!
Not even the surrounds there can make me feel better about it!
Non the less SUPERB CATCH! (beginners luck).. hehe

I'm off to Auckland in July 2010, hopefully we meetup there for some GOOD fishing.

@Spitting Sand Shark there is a few posts (by a New Zealander) on Sealine with some pics of really awsome (Bus Size) Yellow Tail and some type of Rock Cod\Brindal Bass caught in NZ, the world Striped Marlin record is held in NZ and the world Lady's and junior Yellow Fin Tunna are also held in NZ (Sorry CPT). For fresh water, I've heard that it's expensive as you need a lic per day, but they hold many trouphy trout and you can also catch Salmon (not Cob). So, I don't agree that it's all small fish. (My stats could be out, I checked them about 18 months ago.)

I've even been told by one of the ESA presenters (no name mentioned) that in NZ guys use kites to catch Marlin from the shore, not too sure about that as I've not reasearched it my self, but I personally would take the ESA guys word. The World Report 2008 (programe on DSTV-Discovery Channel) states that the only 2 fisheries in the world where fish populations are on the increase are NZ and Aus.

Well, just some interesting fishing related stuff that I found doing my research on NZ.
