We got going at 05h00, and it was a very cold morning with a SW wind blowing, as we got out the harbour we were greeted by some large swells, the average today was 3 – 3.5m with the odd 4 – 4.5m rollers.
The forecast predicted light winds for today, but a strong SW started blowing making the waves steep, the swells although large were comfortable today.
We started out with Kawakawa smashing into our lures and for quite a long period were could not keep 5 lines out as there was always 1 or 2 with some Kawa action and we landed a large amount of Kawakawa today.
We managed to find water up to 23 degrees today, sadly as the day progressed this moved deeper and deeper out.
After our Kawa session I saw flying fish darting everywhere and then the left corner went tight, and we successfully landed a nice size Queen Dorado. It was funny as moments before I had thought to myself that someone would get the first Dorado off Durban this weekend, and there it was on our boat.
We also hooked into a nice Yellowfin Tuna over 10Kg, but he spat the hook right at the boat.
I am totally stoked, eventually Game fish season has begun.
