So the big dream for me was to catch a shark of over 100kg's before the end of the year on the beach. Only started doing this non ed thingy around October and has really put alot of time and effort into a 100kg+ fish of the beach.
Only sorting out my cast properly about a month ago I could comfortably go and target sharks of the beach as reaching the drops was becoming easier by the day. Would usually take two rods one for eds and one for in eds, but decided to put braid on my eds reel just in case that big toothie would come past and I might need the extra line capacity.
Originally the plan was to go to Fransmanshoek, but with the water conditions not being right I ended up driving around most of the night looking for a suitable fishing spot. Eventually ended up at hartenbos where the water was very low and one could wade in about 70m before getting your shorts wet(Thats how flat the sea was!!)
Decided to rig the edibles rod first to slide a small mullet to try and catch a small bronzie to cut up as bait. Got the bait in and started rigging the sharkey rod. Had some yellowtail heads left and decided to slide one in while we wait for fresh bronzie fillets. As I was sliding the bait the eds rod started screaming and stanley ran to grab the rod. I was basically walking on the water....
Got there and Stanley said I must bring out the bronzie so we can fillet it when the fish started taking line. This thing was boxing back and did not exactly have the right rod and reel for a big in ed. So after a bit of running up and down I saw the fish in the surf and I saw the raggie. Not sure about the size Stanley ran and grabbed the leader. Looked like a nice size fish and measured 182PCL which calculated to 113kg.
Gear used was a BM 365/6 and a Sealine SL250, 0.57 maxima line and 50 Lbs braid.
Used a 16/0 circle
