False Bay Catches

hey guys,

just a short report on some recent catches...According to the stories of my younger days I was crazy/addicted to fishing but did not get to the beach as often. Now since a few years ago I got my better half to buy me a Rod and Reel again and slowly started going out to do a bit of fishing. Wish I could get out more often though((r(e(ling

30/09/2013:
07H00 Leave for Milnerton to pump some prawn. Get to the beach and there are a few guys with lines in already.

10H00 First cast, KRAAINESstpime2, land about +-40meters in. Fix the bugger up and decide to leave it where it has landed. Walk to the water to wash my hands and upon my return I see my line slack till on the ground; as I walk closer to tighten up it tightens itself and starts bouncing...WHAT?!! This can't be! VASSS! Land a nice +-30cm Steenbras (first for me) Now I am ampted and the adrenalin starts pumping::mwird

Get lots of bites and nibbles after that but only get about 5 greedy puffer fish.

14H00 Decide its to quite and move a little further down. Cast in and immediately I feel the enquiries but no hook-ups.

14H15: Cast and get pulled flat within 2mins. Land a Galjoen of +-30cm

Then it goes dead again and its time for me to leave as I need to get to work.

Cast with prawn and Chokka whole day but no takers just type writers.
14H30 Start packing my bags as the tide is starting to push and it is almost time for work. Reel up and as I walk to my bags I think lets just try one more throw. Take out a fresh pike and cut him in half at an angle. Take the tail end and cut along the top fin, take out the bone and flap it over inside out and thread the hook threw with skelm hook at the top. Wow this is a serious bait if there are any Cob around I think to myself.

Cast about +-60m and I stand and look around at the other anglers thinking that a nice cob now would make a GREAT early bday gift. Look up and what do you know my tip is bouncing. Reel in and VASSS. Reel some more and the line goes slack, damn its off I think, but as it comes closer it tries to run and its still on. Land a undersize cob of +-45cm.

Now I am ampted and its time for work...Flip that im taking another throw.

Run back, take out the hook and re-bait. Cast again same distance and same bait. Go back to take a pic of the fish before I let it swim off. BOOOM VASSS!!! Ratchet screams and rod is bouncing like crazy. Line runs to the left. Jump up frantically and leave everything. Grab the rod and set the hook. Play the fish nicely as I can feel it is fighting much stronger and feels a bit bigger. Land a nice +-50cm Cob. Take a few more throws and my bait is just being stripped in seconds.

Rasta comes and stands next to me a while late and throws one rod with prawn and other with moonshine worm. Rod with prawn goes VASSS!! Lands an undersize cob.

While walking back to his bag with the fish his second rod bends and almost touches the ground and I shout to him as his back is towards it, he puts down the rod with the small fish and grabs his other rod.

This fish starts taking off as if it is building up momentum to lift off. He panics as he does not have much line on as this fish makes about 5 runs each time he gains some line. Finally he lands a nice cob after about 10-20 mins. Didn't measure it but I had a 6kg max scale with me. Needle went past 6kgs!! Estimate it at about between 6-7.5kg's. Fish was foul hooked solid in the top of its head just infront of the top fin.

Was nice to watch it being landed even though I wish that was me landing it ^^.. ONE DAY!!!

Nice post!

Where about was this..look like palletjies. I only fish between Beespens and Sonwabi so I'm keen to know all reports. The part of the steenie is interesting...my mind always seem to think that 50m and closer would be to close but this is actually where they hang out. Once again, good report.:fishn

Went to fish the pushing tide at Kalk Bay harbour, very slow. One or two bumps, then hooked up a snook, on run, jump and off!!

I thought it was getting better until this chop on his boat came out of the harbour straight over three lines, chopped all. Peefed is to say the least!
