Hey there. Friend of mine got a Evinrude V4 90hp 1990 model. Last trip there was a short intermittend beep coming from the throttle area. The oil level and pressure was fine and the motor was not overheating at all. Any idea and should we be concerned? Planned a big trip for this wkend with the boat. Thanks

It could be a faulty temperature sensor .
There should be two fitted to each motor . One on the port and one on the starboard side on the head .
The port side should have a two wire configuration .
Try disconnecting it when the motor is cold . If the beep has gone away then there is you problem .
You can also test the continuity of the sensor . It should be a normally open sensor . The contact in the sensor should close when overheating shoudl occur .

I hope it is not your sensor . I have just priced a new one for myself at R2 800.

If it is the sensor, try and order it from crowley marine in the US. Their web site has all the model details and schematics for the various engine models. Even with the shipping costs, it will be far cheaper than buying it locally. Their technical guys are also very helpful and if the part is in stock, you can have it within 10 days.

Hey Bigjoe...jokes aside...I've had similar problems with 70hp Johnsons.I disconnected  the thermostat sensor, chucked out the autolube oil containers and went the premix route. No more false alarms after that.Worth a try.

cheers .Galeka
