Why you not using it. I have just bought one from the states and installed it on my boat. Zoom lockx4 at 160meters is quite spectacular on 200Htz. Never seen that much detail on a fishfinder at that depth.

I have HDS units and was going to replace them with Elite units. But the Elite is narrower than the HDS so the mod to my consol would have been excessive. Just assumed I would make the cut out bigger going from 5" HDS to 7" Elite.

Personally I think HDS is over rated and the Elite is good value for money.

Foxhat how about sharing your settings. I have one and to be quite honest I have not being able to get it nicely set up. I set it more or less ok to 30m /40m but at 50m and deeper I fall out the bus. I am 100% convinced this is not the units fault but mine.

I ask Lowrance but was told to buy a book which I did and now I am really confused.

Ha Ha, I bought the movie, in fact 3 movies from the states.

I've got the Lowrance elite 7 paired with a Garmin 721 touch screen and I run both transducers. I've drilled the transducer poles to ensure that I get the position of each transducer exactly correct for sounding at top speed without the spray killing my Honda's.

The Lowrance is quite unique in that it has 4 sounding levels. I can't remember the exact figures cause I'm in Nigeria. I think 200/80/400/800.

To get the 3D effect I use the purple screen on 400 with contrast at about 50-55. This works unbelievable up to about 40 metres. After that you have to start adjusting your contrast upwards but you lose the effect of 3D. You can set all this on simulate with the boat out the water.

For depth you select the one button on the top of the unit with the sign that looks like 2 squares and choose the 83/200 screen. It's a white screen. Push the zoom button on the top to get 2x and then again to get 4x. The seabed comes alive. You can see wrecks with fish around them, it's unbelievable.

Don't be scared to explore your unit on simulation, you'll make a few mistakes but that's how you learn. The option to return the unit to factory default is there under settings.

Get familiar with the day/night screens as well. It's rather distracting trying to navigate your boat in the pitch darkness with a bright screen illuminating your face.
