Eikenhof Dam

I did a search on the net and most of the links point to here because one of the members lists the dam in his faves so I'm sorry for asking if it has been asked and answered already.

Is Eikenhof Dam still open?

Do they have overnight facilities?

What are their rates?

Contact details?

Is it safe to use an inflatable on the dam?

Thanks,
Gert

Yes the dam is still open. You can access it via the country club http://www.countryclub.co.za/ or apparently there is free less secure access on the other side.

Dont think there are any ovenight facilities but you can ask them.

The fish are not vey big there but there are millions of them so you should catch a ton.

Thanks for the info mate...

Catching a ton is the whole idea - we are n00b bass anglers looking for some fun - not PBs

Some tips for Eikenhof, fish the Palmiet patches in the dam, this is where the bass hold, with a float tube you can padle to about 10m from a patch, flick your soft plastic or jig 2m past it and let it sink to the bottom count till 10-20 then give it a flick, let it drop again, and repeat, watch your line closely for any movement, and strike fermly. My best results have been on a lite mojo rig setup (or drop shot US style) with 2inch chartreus grubs. Fish slowly, I've gone there flicked out a grub to a good spot and just let it sit there for a few minutes, the takes are very suttle.

Good luck!

When is some one gonna stock eikenhof up with some baitfish ?
Not the baitfish that is the problem, the fish dont grow because of the low ph of the water, we have caught 30cm fish there that is five years old. There are a few larger fish in there but they were stocked at a large size. About ten years ago they took some of Eikenhofs fish to Theewaters because the Theewaters bass stocks took a plumet, apparently the fish grew as per normal.

Bergie... you think they'll ***** if we pitch a tent at the gate and have a braai next to the road? LOL

I have camped there but that was during club comps a few years back, dont know if the permit it anymore.

Why dont you go fish Theewaters, lots of water to cover on a float tube and big fish, even pull a cat or two!

LOL Bergie... they still have to invent the float tube that will float my fat arse - and if they do... I doubt it will fit on Theewaters.

Lol...when I read inflatable I thought of a float tube for some reason:fbash my bad!

Only trolling motors allowed on Eikenhof, except for the canoe fraternity.

We have a 3 man inflatable with a 37lbs min-couta - we use it for feature finding and baiting (specimen carp fraternity)
