Edible fishing rod?

Hi all, was just wondering is a penn battalion 5-7 oz paired with a penn pursuit 8000 with 40lb braid is a good combo for targeting all edibles? All responses will be appreciated.

Hi Fish slayer.
Maybe if you are slightly more specific as to what edibles you would like to target you will get a better response.

Personally I wouldnt go heavier that 6 ounces for a general purpose edible rod
Also do not be scared to go for a 10 000 reel

7oz is getting a bit heavy.

4-5oz is perfect for Galjoen/Bronze bream/Blacktail
6oz is perfect for kob/sandies

That is why I'm saying a 6oz is more versatile

7oz you start fishing for your smaller raggies and ineds

You really do not want to use a 7oz for galjoen and stuff

Can 7 oz be used for cracker and kob?

You can use your pocket knife to tighten screws..................but is it the best tool for the job?

I suppose it all depends if you already have the rod, and how often you fish.

I have a seagrand ii 6 ounce rod. Probably my lucky rod not sure. It is not my ideal cracker rod, for that I have a 7-9 ounce rod. However every one of my bigger crackers have been caught on that 6 ounce rod. The 2 galjoen over 50cm same. It also has a 70 odd kg cow shark and more smooth hounds than i care for under the belt. If 4 rods are in the water usually that one goes. Have i gotten hidings on it, for sure. But then the same kinda fish picked up on the purglass/4 and torium and it also ended in a hiding. A 4-6 ounce rod will do most things. If you are specifically targeting certain fish like cracker, larger kob and medium ineds a 6-8 ounce probably is better.

I fish my edibles on a 4-5oz rod and have never been undergunned. Though a 20kg cracker would probably test me, its caught steenies and crackers up to 15 kg in amoung the bricks enough times..I fish live bait on that rod for cob etc...13ft 4-5z does it for me.
