Amazing how far these Raggies move.
My first tagged Raggie I captured had been caught at Fish Point, Re-Caught at Hamburg and Re-caught by myself in Gonubie. It was 116cm pcl and had been free about 2 years since the 1st Capture at 98cmpcl. It had covered about 120km.

Then I got a Raggie at Leonards that had been caught at Port St John. That one had covered about 300km.

I also assisted with info here on Sealine where a Raggie was caught in False Bay and it had been tagged by a friend of mine in Hamburg, that must be about 800km????

Awesome info and that is why I have applied for a tagging kit which is arriving any day now.

I measured straight line and on the beach and he obviously at Kei Mouth measured on the rocks.

I did check the differences in some fish on 2m PCL was up to 12cm measured over the back or in a straight line. Interestingly the one's without a "Skof" there was very little difference in straight line or across the body

Got a Raggie recap earlier this year, 213cm first measure at Kei and then at Struisbaai 208cm, same storie with the bricks and the beach measurement.

enigma i caught 3 bags at fishpoint the 1 day and all of them were tagged but the tag was broken off at the surface! just a little piece of tag with 2 numbers on it

I had the same problem at Fish Point one day, if it is one of the pem tags and you can get it out the tag number is also stamped into the S/S barb.

I removed the tag but lost it and only later was I told the number is stamped onto it next time I'll be more careful

Hi, got an earful from Kopstamp today, he measured the shark and is adamant it is 179cm and I incorrectly wrote 175cm so I'll have to correct the matter.

Still I can't see the fish not growing in 419 days of Freedom

but more seriously, agree with tuna in his other thread, with the measuring pre caudal and measuring till after the notch, the fish is all ready big why, especially when tagging, do your utmost to measure correctly.

"redcarpet" was a term used in our ballies time when we had to appear before the school principle for some much needed "lyfstraf" after being our usual self.
