So after moving to CT a few months ago I finally got to take some leave and return to the EC.First stop was Kidds Beach for two nights but the water was crystall clear and flat so scratched a bit but got nothing and rather concentrated on collecting bait.
Second stop was Mazeppa Bay for 4 nights.First day I got there in the afternoon and went to Tinys rock and caught a small yellow belly and hooked something that must have been a cracker as it was no match for my light tackle and cut me of quickly.Next day went out with Andrew the gilly and only managed a smallish raggy with another guy catching a decent hammer.
The following day got a screaming run early in the morning of the island but got burnt off.Garrick were also there all the days but would not take anything thrown at them to great frustration.Went to shark point and sent my kite out there but with no takers.
The rest of the trip was spoilt with pouring rain which caused me to only go out foe a couple of hours with no luck.
Next stop was Port Alfred where we first went to fish point .As we were getting ready a guy hooked a 200kg plus rag on his first cast but managed to snap his rod and loose the fish just before we could grab the leader for him.Poor guy had to pack up as he didnt have another rod with him.Thought we were garanteed some fish but alas the weed came in and made fishing impossible.Went to the pier in port alfred at night and managed two raggies one of 170cm and another of 160cm.
Then last stop was PE and went out with some PE guys to the pier with not much success only Mark losing a +- 100kg rag.Made a day trip to St Francis and slid out YT and a occi in the hope of a duckie.Got a pickup on the occie almost straight away and thought here comes my duckie.Only the fish wasnt fighting very well?On getting it close enough I confirmed we are heading into winter with the sight of a spearnose.Atleast its a new species for me.
So all in all it wasnt a greatly successfull trip but was still nice getting back to the eastern cape again.Cant wait for my next trip.
