Easter weekend

Fished my regular spots at salt rock on saturday. rushed up at around 10:00 and dug up some red bait. at around 11 started fishing the close gullies and where getting some huge blacktail! haven't seen them around in a while.

all blacktails ranged from around 500g to 1.2kg. when the tide started to pick up i saw some nice size fish in the waves so i whipped out a 12ft rod and on my first cast i picked up a 2kg stonebream on the second a 1.5kg banded galjoen on the third hooked up with something huge, fought it for around 5mins and it came of the hook suspected a brusher or bronze bream.

at around 2 the water started to get a bit too heavy almost picking me of the rocks so i moved more towards christmas bay and caught 5 stone bream ranging from 1kg to 2.8kg and 3 banded galjoen all in the 1.5kg range.

on saturday there were too many fish in the water! i saw a couple of fish getting stranded on the rocks waiting for the next wave to take them back in. was alot of fun even though the locals were cussing at me for releasing the stone bream and some banded galjoen!

on sunday i fished the harbour and for most of the day it was a graveyard! just a couple under sized grunters and 1 sized. The harbour is becoming really dissapointing.

all in all it was an exciting saturday and a relaxing sunday.

Until last weekend I never knew what fun scratching in the bays for rock fish with light tackle was! Will definitly be trying it more often!
Could you post directions to the spots at Salt Rock / Christmas bay? Thanks

if you coming from durban take the N2 northbound. after you branch off the salt rock off ramp turn right carry on for about half a kilometer then turn left (cane cutters) you will then come to a slip road, keep right and carry on straight through (watch for beeeeg potholes) you will then come to another slip road, keep left by now you'll see the beach on your right. the second and last car park (before a dead end) is christmas bay.

an alternate route is driving along the beach from ballito, thompsons bay, chakas rock. keeping along the beach through a residential area at salt rock but too much speed humps.

hope this helps and how did you get so much mana?
