Hey all,

I'm going to be up in Durban from the 28th June for a week or so. I was wondering if it is safe to dive and shoot fish during the Sardine Run. I would really like to get as much diving in, while I am in the fish Mecca of SA! Would love to join in any dives, I will have transport.

Regards,

Hi Simon

I wouldnt call it the fish mecca but it's a good time of the year to be diving the south coast.
Lots of garrick should be found off the points and maybe the odd dagga salmon,Natal snoek and if you lucky a Big Croc Couta.
You just gotta do some driving around til you find clean water and a high tide and you cant go wrong.

Im unfortunately oversea's otherwise I would have showed you a couple spots....

Any outcrops of rocks or points that go into the backline are perfect for these species.
Ive dived with the sards for 10 years and only had one occasion when there were edible fish with them....
good luck bud

Hey Simon there is a cool site, www.spearfishingsa.co.za , if you look under Natal dive spots you can see places to dive on the North and South Coast... when I moved to KZN this site helped me out a lot!

Thanks for the response guys! Will get hold of you closer to the time.

Just a quick question, I have 2 rail, reel-guns one is 1m and the other is a carbon 1.2.
Which is the better for Durban?

Enjoy the weekend :)
