I am bringing my young boys down to Durban over Easter for some offshore fishing . Any suggestions in what tactics typically works around these waters and were would we target these species.

Please help a farther not wanting to disappoint his sons.

I see Bennie is well respected in this area, maybe some help Bennie?

Well because you have 2 small boys, boredom is your worst enemy. I would recommend targeting general game fish on live baits. Kids love catching live bait... I would make a trace with a light no. 6 wire approximately 1m long with a single 6/0 or treble #4, pin a livey in the nose and drift over no.1 area while scratching for some bottoms. Depending on their age and size but generally kids under 10 years cant fish much deeper than 30m for extended periods, the leads become too heavy to bring up continuously. If they are older, go fish around the glen Ashleigh reaor deep no.1  in about 50m. Expect to catch all sorts on the trap sticks. Tuna, Couta, Dorado, King fish... The bottom trace with 2 no. 2 hooks and some chokka will keep them entertained all day long. Use chocca with kids it's much tougher.

Thanks Bennie

Luckily my boys are old enough to handle a rod.

Want troll a bit as well, where do you suggest?

What is the launch fees and requirements at DSBC?

Your help is much appreciated.

What do you want to troll? Plastics or live baits? If plastics, just work the cleaner water 50-60m mark. But unfortunately you can never tell where the fish are.
