Dry ground feed vs Cooked maize minced at water

Is there any advantage of the one feed over the other? Dry feed is a lot less trouble to prepare, but does the amount of preparation involved in preparing cooked maize justify its use?

I think it depends on what hookbait you will be using. I would say if you are going to gooi mielies, it would definitely help. Unfortunately I haven't done the prepared maize thing in a long time to know enough. Maybe some of our more experienced guys can comment?

not only does cooking maize , and other feeds bring out the smell, but its also easeir and safer for a carp to digest, for example, if a peanut is not cooked it could kill a carp, it has toxin in it which can harmful a fish, the other problem is once the carp has sucked in all that feed it begins to expand and jams up the gut,,look at how maize expands and even tiger nuts

Hi Deisel, good to see you back!

The dry feed that Craig refers to is the normal groundfeed (Supercast, Original etc). Just add water and it is set. It doesn't expand as it has already been pre-cooked.

I agree on the prepared maize having more flavour etc. Just don't thing I will be using it during clubcomps or leagues, but definitely when I go camping for a weekend.

When i go for a whole day I will soak the maize for 24 hrs and cook for bout 1 - 2 hours then grind it down the results is worth the effort .

Thanks for your input. Will test the 2 options at the clinic this weekend and report back on Monday.

Recently I soaked maize in water with lots of Molasses and Hempseed. Then I slowly cook the maize and put it through a grinder. Stashit in small little bags in the freezer. I have used it on a provious occasions mixed with my normal groundfeed. Works like a charm. Don't add to much, because it influences the binding abilities of your groundfeed.

Summer months i only use cooked and minced maize for my feeding are it tends to hold the fish longer in your fishing spot.

Winter i do the opposit i only use instant feed because its fine and doesnt fill the fish.  think about it this way, there metabolism slows down so they dont feed that much. the idea is to get them feeding without filling them.

In my minds eye, i can already see and smell that mielies going thru the grinder, bits of brown bread being added for good luck as my one friend would say, and how when it gets put on the bom holders, everyone says that there is nothing better than it. I love fishing is all i can say.
