Drone fishing

I first thought to do a separate thread, but think my questions will fit into this one.
I just got a Phantom 3 to use for fishing and ordered the Gannet X.  I have a few questions:
  • When taking a bait out with a fixed spool reel, do you open the bail or loosen the drag? I saw a video where it was said that the line curls if you loosen the drag, but then I see people that does exactly that. Theoretically it makes sense to me to open the bail as that is how you normally cast

  • Is there a resource somewhere showing how to make edible traces for cut bait and live bait?  I did search, but could not get proper info.  I see Andre from ASFN looks like he does his normal edible trace and then just attach an elastic band with a little mono loop to his leader[/*]

1. YES Always open the bailarm. If you run out on the drag the line will twist so badly it will eventually weaken and damage your braid. Running out on the drag it goes out straight and is rotated back on. Opening the bail arm, it rotates off and rotates back on.

2. Always use a dropper loop. 0.5-1m length of nylon tied to your leader with a securing loop at the end. This keeps the line out of your props in flight and in the event of sudden stops etc. the further the bait and sinker hangs below the drone the better the stability and less violent the drone reacts to a swinging bait

There is no difference between a casting trace and a droning trace.

Great, thanks I will go through that facebook page.  I have already viewed a couple of the Sharkan videos, which contains good info.  I like the sinker trip system!

We had a fantastic first time drone fishing weekend.
(Left the Kayak at home and the surf was a breeze)

Techo Banine surely is the place for Drone fishing, with the reef at 300 m.
We dropped between 250 and 300 and had 4 serios runs on whole chokka (250-300 gr) and of course Sardine.
Due to the excitement we could only land a small hammerhead at +/- 15 kg.

Some of the runs was serious and could be GT as it immediately set sites on the reef and cut off.

As we all was first timers it went exceptionally well with no flaws and the drone did 5 drops on one battery.

Used 8/0 circles and 9 Oz grapnel and the bait sat solid.

Mackrel got no attention.

Next time will get more drone flying and drop pics as for this group the "gogga has bitten" and the next trip is being organized already.
