Dove bait presentation?

I like the way you thinking GC. Dove will be a great bait and one I'm looking to use. The way I will rig it is to take off the feet at the knee take the wings and head off and skin it so it looks like a chicken. Hook will be a big circlebig circle hooked under the spine like I do with a baby chicken. With the skin off there will be a great scent trail. Ill see if I can post a pic of the chicken bomb I use, 3 to 4 baby chickens on a 12/0 circle. I just hook them on after preping them. But even qwith 4 baby chickens I've caught a lot of 10kg 11kg fish.

Ya oncr you take the feathers off it should sink well. If not cut a couple slots in the bird or a small hoel in the gut. But use a slighlty bigger sinker and it should also stay down if there is an issue. I did think about hair rigging it. It should work well. My idea is to use a bait needle to rig it under the spine. That will be a solid place and the rig won't be pulled.

I will also look at hair rigging it. If you are dropping it use A safety bolt rig. If your casting use A sliding weight. Then it wont matter if it floats its no problem if its just of the ground. With the hair rig you can basically use any hook aswell. Dont think any bait is too big for cats ill even use A chicken! hehe.

Shot 4 doves a while back. Much too small for bait!!! thought we would catch big fish and we landed a barbel of 1kg that swallowed the whole thing.
Use a guinea fowl.
I hooked the dove through the head without removing any feathers

It reminded me of my "wip" that I set when I was younger...for the same purpose.
Used to experiment with "Tiptol, Duif and Mynah and also geelvink"
Suddenly also realised again I've also got bosduiwe on my roof...and off to Koppies Dam soon for a barbel session...
Funny as hell if you ask me...especially the guy that said rather use a guinea fowl!!!
The fish oils in a fish head has much more potent attractant properties though! So my birds are "safe" for now...

Dove do work... it is a bait big catfish will take quicker than fish heads in a river where you have a deep hole with reeds along the bank on the side of the bank that is in shade in the afternoon... or under one of those hanging "wilgerbome".
We had lots of success in the smaller rivers, with the biggest catfish i've seen come out of the vaal river below bloemhof coming out on a live "swaeltjie" that i got out the river after it was half drowned.
1. A live bird will work better, that is why the catfish are hanging about under the "vink neste" I'm not going to get involved about the ethics of it, im just saying it works better.
2. If you are going to use a dove, i cut the bottom part of the wings off, and pull most of the feathers out. I cut the head off, pull the feathers on the breast and back out.
Hook through the breast bone.
A Bosduif(actually a kransduif, with the red and grey, a bosduif is a green dove also called the parrot dove although everyone calls the one on the roof a bosduif), is a bit big, and we used to cut them in half and make 2 baits(or rather braai them and use the turtledoves and rooiborsduifies as bait.)
Match the hatch... catfish swimming around reeds are there for birds. I would first cast a fish head in bloemhof dam, but will trade you a fish head for a platanna or bird in the river......

Dis so waar wat jy sê van voëls en riviere. Ons sit even 'n volstruis stoffer se vere op die voëls sodat hy beter dryf. Jy cast hom stroom op naby die riete/strukture en laat hy rivier af vloei naby die riete verby. Ons steek net 'n gat in die voël se maag vir daai sent trail. Jy kan klippies naby jou bait gooi so nou en dan om dieselfde effek van 'n roepstok/buddy casting na te maak. En as snor hom aggresief vat bestrosium jy vir hou behoorlik, hahaha. Fanie hier van Sealine sweer ook by die reuk van hoender en ander voël vere.
