Doubting dropshot

Hi Guys.

Tried my luck at drop shotting last week in umdloti. I found the most difficult part being to select the right areas to cast into and then the restrictions at Umdloti wrt the areas one is allowed to fish. Anybody willing to share some info about this?

Then my Cammo worms disappearing from my hook and packet at the speed of light. Which species demolish (steal) these cammo worms like this? Tap, tap, tap worm gone..?

It was like bass fishing in the ocean and I am very happy with my results.

Caught blacktail, moonie and a lizard fish all on cammo worm.

And then a torpedo scad on an onde onda. I used this on a slide that night and caught a 64 kg diamond ray- WOW.

Hooked on drop shot fishing !!!

Thanks for all the advise earlier in the year. It definately led to my sucess.

Torpedo Scad (I think) caught on onde onda off rocks in Umdloti. Please let me know if you guys suspect that it's another species. Some guys reckon that it's a maasbanker, but I think the pectoral fins of this fish are more elongated and that the finlets look different. This fish was used on a slide and produced a 63.5 kg diamond ray.

Great stuff!  I'll be dropshotting in the Strand from harbour, reef and kayak in December - can't wait!  July last year I caught 40+ maasbankers in one session from Harbour Island, and none of that 5-hook feather cheating!  Great fun on light gear.

The maasbanker (or horse mackerel) has a distinctly curved lateral line as shown in this link.

The guilty parties would include puffer fish, small blacktail and small strepies.

BEEN THERE, DONE THAT AND HAVE THE EMPTY PACKET OF CAMO WORM.

Next time chum with pilchards (cut into thin slices), it keeps them a little bussier and attracts more fish into the gullies, unfortunately more small ones and some bigger ones.

no need to doubt...
its a bit of an art, but the reason most people don't catch much is because they're just fishing in the wrong spots!!!

TRUST ME

key areas....
ESTUARIES
ESTUARIES
OFFSHORE
only then go the gully route

gullies will catch you blacktail and mor blacktail and the odd damsel, wrasse, small stumpie and rockcod

in a recent trip to st lucia, fished 3 hours, got 9 fish and 5 species in the heat of the day!!!now if i'd been there for a morning or late pm session i could have doubled that!!!!!!

off to st lucia mon-wed next week

theres no doubting drop shot....

next trip to st lucia, kak weather YET 14 species, countless fish and to top it 3 kingy's in tough days (day and a half 'fishable') fishing, one on a popper, and two on dropshot. no doubt i would have caught more kingys on dropshot BUT i was determined to get a kingy on top water and fished that for the majority of the time while my mates dropshotted

once again...no need to doubt dropshot!

tight lines guys
