Reefman, there are several techniques to deepsea fishing. When fishing for pelagics eg couta, bill fish, sharks, dorado etc, I use the multiplier type reels (TLD's, SL50's, 50W's etc), but when bottom fishing (for reef dwelling species eg rock cod, slinger romans, geelbek) I prefer to use the big 9inch KP. It just appears to have better cranking power than a multiplier because of the size of the reel. There are other reasons of course but for me it's mainly the comfort factor.

Hi guys

To get back to the original topic of ESA : I became a new member :imnewrecently (of Sealine and ESA) and are not in the mood, on this Friday the 13th, to defend ESA. I primarily joined ESA to be able to obtain their DVD's of previous programs, but I'm also not very happy with their program contents nowadays. It's all about catching sharks - what happened to edibles ?

A tight lines weekend to all.

Hi Benji,

100% there with you, man. That's exactly the reason why I joined the membership as well (along with the cap and the chance of winning the tackle makeover.....:clap12). The  land based fishing slot has becme very mundane. What was of keen interest to me, especially last night, was the drop shot and game fishing off the yacht on the way to Inhaca island. It's not often you see a jobfish caught on a Kona lure. That was really good. Some more of that would be welcome.

Cheers

One good thing though somebody donated new clothes to Carolien, it wasn't that old brown jeep t-shirt she had on for the last 5 months lol.

It is now becoming too commercial and less entertainment

I agree with you, catch more edibles, I think basically any novice fishermen can catch sharks. Items like how to best preserve bait once collected etc.

Hahahaha, Daiwa reels have always been cheaper than Shimano, for good reason... they are not as good... Reefman the chirp about BMW and Mercs... doesnt ring true buddy. Anyway who wants a merc or a BMW, Last BMW i saw in Mozambique was stuck in the sand with a burnt out clutch (trying to launch a boat) lol. Bring on reliable/durable Shimano, and the good ol Toyota Raider/ Nissan Hardbody!

Wonder how much they pay these guys from ESA to fish with those Diawa's only. I use both brands but prefer the shimano, maybe it's like cars you like what you like and that's what you will stick with, luckely I like the Shimano's :clap12.

Will be nice if the ESA crowd could do comparisons between different reels, rods, lures etc and not just the sponsors equipment only.

Hey guys Í have DSTV but make it my duty NOT TO WATCH ESA .SURPRISED?READ ON!!!My reasons are as follows:

1.Their motto is Educate Innovate Conservate. In order for them to get this message to the masses ESA should have used a public channel not a pay channel.

2.In their magazines there are no forms of written correspondance sorry there was but no more.

3.Subsistence fisherman need to be educated about preservation and ESA is unheard of by most of them because of the medium ESA chooses.

4.In around March/April I personally phoned John Dos Santos to address these issues,He promised a prompt reply which never materialised.

5.In order to register you need to have access to the internet which I feel is totally biased.

6.Sad but true nobody from ESA has responded to this topic on Sealine.

IF ANYONE FROM ESA IS READING THIS :YOU GUYS NEED TO SERIOUSLY RECONSIDER YOUR MARKETING STRATEGIES YOUR'LL ARE OF AT A TANGENT THUS MISSING THE TARGET BY A MILE.IF ESA NEEDS ADVICE CONTACT ME.:(

Guys

HERE WE GO AGAIN, MORE WHINING AND NO ACTION !!!!!!!!! I JOINED SEALINE TO BECOME AND GET TO KNOW THE FISHING COMMUNITY.

HOLY #*&^ ...... AND I THOUGHT PRO HUNTER'S  HAD A LOT TO SAY.

Surely it lies in us to educate ,conservate, and more ok every body has their points of view but these guys are actually DOING IT sposored or not they are showing us more fishing spots and tips on how to, where to and when to than we could ever dream about. Remember the old days we would hear stories about these places and dream of going there now all you have to do is switch on your T.V. and bang there you have it.

YES THEY NEED SPONSORS TO DO WHAT THEY DO AND YES THEY DO NEED TO PROMOTE THE SPONSORS GOODS THAT'S WHY WE PAY HUGE MONEY TO HAVE THEM ADVERTISE. I PERSONALLY DROPPED A BUTTLOAD ON THEM TO ADVERTISE MY AMAZON TOURS AND PEACOCK BASS FISHING. I DON'T HEAR YOU GUYS SAYING "HEY IT LOOKS COOL WHAT DIVERSITY, NEW PRODUCTS ON THE MARKET AND MORE" Have you guys seen some of those boats in there.

Cmon boys we are Africans one and all and it does lie with us to do what we can when we can.

TELL YOU WHAT NEXT TIME YOU SEE SOMEONE TAKE ONE MORE THAN HIS LIMIT CALL THE PARKS BOARD, NEXT TIME YOU SEE ONE NOT GOING BACK THAT SHOULD HAVE!! CALL PARKS BOARD, NEXT TIME YOU SEE FOUL PLAY WALK UP TO THE DUDE AND BARK IN HIS FACE HE KNOWS HE IS WRONG.

I BET YOU, YOU WOULD SH12 YOUR SELVES IF ONE OF THOSE PRESENTERS CAME UP TOO YOU ON THE BEACH STUCK A CAMERA IN YOUR FACE AND ASKED WHY YOU WERE OVER YOUR LIMIT ?????

Sorry for getting aggro but you "GUYS NEED TO FISH MORE AND TALK LESS"

To John , ONDAD and THE DUDES AT ESA AND SUPERSPORT thanks for the fishing and not giving us another soccer channel.KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK SHARKS MOZ, TZ AND MORE. DO NOT LISTEN TO THE DUDES WHO FISH FROM COUCHES THE MOST THEY WILL EVER CATCH WITH ROD AND REEL IS FEATHERS WASHED DOWN WITH A WARM BEER AND RED ASS$#*& FROM ALL THE SITTING DOWN.

I fish from the couch a lot, and I am not ashamed of that. I do it, because I am an absolute novice at sea fishing, and I see it as a way to learn. I love watching ESA, and I will do so for a long time to come. I reckon their show is doing great and they are certainly trying hard to get something good going for angling.

I agree however that they should rather not be on a pay channel, but public. I also have a slight irritation with their use of english... Conservate is not a word, but that's just sematics..

I won't pay to join their forum. Why not?? Because the members should not pay to share their expertees.. Yes, at the moment I am sucking info off here, but I hope in future I can give back, and I will do it with no expectations of reward, just as it was done for me. But I certainly won't pay for the privilige to share my knowledge.

Make no mistake. ESA is a business, and a good one at that. They do what they do for profit. But sometimes it can be taken too far, and I believe their strategy is flawed in the sense that you pay for access to their forums. If it were free:

1. More people would join and contributre with the direct result that:
2. More people will see their sponsors' brands

Some of you called from a response from ESA on comments made here.... I don't see why they should defend themselves on another forum. If you have a problem with them that you want adressed, do it properly and in writing to the management. If they don't come back to you... Well, then that speaks of their business ethics/conduct.

But all in all, I am a very happy member of Sealine, and I get anything/everything that I need to know right here.

ultimately what happens in any business, institution, club etc is that not everyone can be pleased. i am a Platinum member and i chose to join as i believe that they are doing a heck of a lot for the sport of angling.

if sealine were to start memberships, i would join as well not because i am forced to, but because i want. so its up to each and every individual, him/herself to decide if they want to belong to a club, institution etc.

True, the programmes could be improved and i am sure it will, but just remember that Rome was not built in a day, and the sooner we all realise that, take a step back, and think, ''What would i do in such a situation'', and can convincingly find a solution to satisfy everyine, then i say take the bull by the horns and run with the idea, but until such time, lets try to assist, and stop pointing fingers

Well said Brendon i agree with you fully.  They are putting their product on the market, how they go about that is up to them, if they want to air a show of them just catching sharks thats their choice, similarly its your choice whether you want to  watch their programme or not.  You cannot complain about the content of their show, unless they are unlawful or abuse our enviroment/resources.

Its a simple case of take it or leave it.  If you dont like it dont support it.  But please dont go around bad mouthing the okes. Everyone has the right to a viewpoint, but dont go and spread bad publicity for a proudly SA show, we definitely dont need that.  Constructive criticism through the CORRECT channels is the way to go guys. Obviously its a different story if they promsied well balanced content and are not honouring that promise.  But in this case, only guys who actually subscribe to them with memberships have gripes and should address the matter directly.

I happened to think that its a great initiative and like Brendon said they have done wonders for the sport and i have learnt alot by reading their magazines or watching the programmes.

Bredon and Fredman, cant agree more with you.

They are bloody good anglers (and certainly better than a lot of those that are slating them) who have taught me a whole lot over the past year and a half and I cant wait for the program every week. I am also a platimium member and intend to stay one.

Never before has angling been so much in the spotlight as it is now and there are people talking about angling who have never  held a rod, and this can only be a good thing.
