Not all flourocarbon are created equal. Get yourself some decent stuff, it is much more abrasion resistant that mono, and if proiperly wetted the knots won't give any problems.

@FA, do you also use the flouro + allbright + short piano to your x-raps? or do you go straight flouro to x-raps? Just wandering...

I quote from Malin website, without having to explain more...

Our leader wire is torsion straightened and treated so it is nearly invisible beneath the water, and is available in the dark coffee colored finish.

That means if the gauge are thin enough, fish can't see it..

It can be knotted like mono, better invisibility than fluoro and super strong

Is it not maybe a marketing angle? I still have faith in good old Piano wire - I am off to Barotseland for 6 month's so maybe when I am done I can give you some feedback

Ryan, you make a very good point, ''why if your using mono as the main line use a fluoro leader'', I've actually removed all my braid for the upcoming trip to Jozini and replaced with mono and a fluoro leader, it was fun tying the knots :SSS:SSS:SSS

Regarding mono, I like Stren and Siglon, but I also have used Suffix which I find to be an excellent line for the price,

I have a spool of Berkley Iron Silk left over from a few years ago, it was also a good line, a bit thick but tough and little memory, (a bit like some heavyweight boxers!) can you still get this line?

When you have 2 sons that fish as well, it's a tad expensive to rig something like Fireline on all the reels, what lines do you posters use for Tiger fishing?

And now you are getting my 1c worth.

If using mono, why at a flour leader, tie straight to your wire, I can see the advertising has really affecting some guys.

If fishing drop shot or topwater go for braid with a mono leader to absorb the shock and then your wire.

If fishing rapalas & spinners then you must use mono or you will loose to many fish, you need the stretch.

If fishing bait, use mono to steel, you need the stretch to set the hook properly and even if the fish gives the stretch will keep you tight.

Anyway do what you want, and I will catch the fish.....:):):)
