I'm going to Witbank this weekend and I am going to try "plat paddas", ox heart and fish heads for barbel. Also going to try and get into some big carp and then do not forget to take the bass equipment with you as there are a lot of bass.

Witbank has a lot of silt. specially in the inlet as you come in.. that bay .. the one you drive round to get to the other side..

use seafishing tactics..

medium hook toothpic 2x chicken liver or heart and some foam the ones sea dude use to lift bait..

cut a piece bout pencil thick 1/2 pencil long. cut a slit in its length to 1/2 way into the thickness from top to end so the hookline can rest in it.. take the toothpic and take some cotton and ti half of the tp to the hook so the other 1/2 is on the line slide the foam over the toothpic and over the line and wind it up all over with the line and toothpic covered in foam now take the two livers and hook it into the hook and slide them up the shank where the foam and toothpic meets the shank take some cotton and tie the liver to ensure it does not fall off in the cast..

cast as far ass you can..

and wait bout 30 min..

this trick works a bomb as the cat does not have to fav in the silt to firn the livers.. they just swim up and swalow..

lemme know how it goes..

Hi guys, first of all i had problems caching carp in a dam on huddle park golf course and desided to one day to go and throw them some bread on the surface to c if they would feed on it and now every time i go there i cant help but catch them..! If you c them feeding and swiming around the surface, then try this method...Just tie a small swivel to your main line and ad a leader of about 50 to 60 cm to that with a nice small say sise 3 diiachi hook to it, attach either a bubble float or one of those red and white round floats to your swivel to keep it afloat, put a piece of bread crust on the hook and cast it in along with a few free offerings.. ps the red and wite float actually attracts the fish, if not just lengthen your leader..!

As for witbank dam and the question, as to weather there are barbel there or not..?

I caught this one of +- 7 kg`s on a greenpumkin horny toad whilst fishing for bass..! in November.

I've had no luck catching carp at homestead dam. I caught this catfish on a boilie. Caught another one on caramel mielies and a friend of mine caught a small catfish on dough with oxblood dip. Saw a nice bass of 1kg caught on earth worm too. These were all caught just after sunset and early morning. Got a run mean run on a tigernut one morning at 5:30am but my line was cut on something sharp :( I hope to build up my gear for specimen this year, then I will certainly go try there.
