Spoke to an old experienced trek net fisherman that use to work Smits, and he told me that the SE has to blow 4 days consecutively before the fish moved into Smits. I am a keen wind surfer, and I can tell you we have not had that consistant SE for more than 3 days, then it swings. So that would appear to be the reason.

Not to butt in, but this is irresponsible. I fish the battery all the time and have a contact who goes EVERY day. Not one fish has been landed there since November, which I caught.

The intention is not to dissuade anyone, but to cut through the bull s&%t. We (a crew of about 6 or 7 regulars) fish Simonstown very often and the truth is that very few fish have been landed there this season. There were 2 fish landed in Nov, and a small run at the end of Jan, but otherwise it has been dismal.
We keep trying, but that is the nature of yellowtail fishing from the shore - you can go 20 times and not see a fish, only to encounter them on the 21st trip.
We keep going back in the hope that we will experience that red letter day, which happens maybe once or twice in a season, if that.
The perception created by certain posters seems to be that yellowtail are caught all the time from this stretch of coast, and this is simply a blatant untruth, and irresponsible, because it creates a false impression. The post that got my goat was that 4 fish were landed there in a week in which my friends and I between us were there the whole time??
So I am trying to set the record straight, not scare anyone away. By all means go and try for yourself, but dont be disappointed if the tails are not jumping out the water and attacking small kids on the train tracks...
