DIY : rod tube

Hi chaps.

I would like to make my own PVC rod tube.

I can find the 75mm or 80mm PVC pipe. It's sold in 3m and/or 6m lengths.

My problem is that they do not have the end stoppers.

1. I want to use a stopper on one end.
2. I want to have a screw top fitting on the other end. This is for access to the rod.

I could McGyver :) the stopper, but the screw top is still a problem.

Any advice?

Use the 110mm (drainpipe), they have stopper & screw caps readily available at hardware stores.

You can store up to 3 rods in one of those

I have seen those. I was thinking of a smaller diameter pipe and the screw-in part is hard to find.

Looks like that will be a way out. As I was going to make two tubes, I might as well make one for both to fit in. Less to carry when on the beach and moving about.

Ihave used 110 mm works like a dream. Just put some rubber in the lids to prevent the rods getting damaged.

75mm is standard irrigation pipe and for those you get alot of fittings. I would sugest you go to one of those shops and get the following:

FIP endcap 75mm (they glue on)
FIP Glue/FBSP 75mm x 3"
FIP Stopend Male 3"

And that is all you need.

I built one out of blue 75mm irrigation piping. Went to my local irrigation specialist and got the pipe and 2 stop ends. One I glued in and the other I epoxied some 5mm brass machine screws opposite one another. I machined 2 opposite L-shaped holes with a 5mm channel in the end of the tube. The Brass screws fit in the L-shaped channels with a quick twist.

I'd show you pictures, but unfortunately, this tube is lying somewhere in a storeroom at Blue Marlin after I sent my rod there for repairs and it was returned in one of their nice zip top tubes. But it worked pretty well.
