diy fast release chum bucket

Sooo guys had an Epiphany Einstein moment last night.

I made this bucket that allows you drop your chum to any depths you want ie.5 fathoms, 10 fathoms etc. with a simple tug on the line it snaps open and releases your chum, retrieve the now empty bucket recharge it and drop down again slightly higher up do this a few times and you can raise the shoal cool I hear you say?.  And thats not all - the birds cant get to your drift baits ::Snow thats a good reason to use this system .

and as a bonus no charge you can even put live bait into the bucket

 Now I just gotta hitch a ride to show you how to work this complicated devise and get you certified as a "beam me up chum bucket operator". he he my name is Kirk capt Kirk. Enjoy.

It works I tell you the jack russell is looking for his dog pelets in the pool!! ha ha I used some to test if they release

Clever invention Kirk, looks easy enough to make up, just a pity i dont have the time to make one before 5am tomorrow morning when we will be heading out ,but will certainly give it a try before our trip after tomorrow ,well done , will save me buying a paint ball gun for those thieving birds

Hey kirk, we used a slightly different invention yesterday and it worked well against the birds. I think yours will work well for chum too. Deploying a baited hook with it might see the hook tangling in the lines of your lid holder (not sure if yours is just for chum?. But good work all the same and dont be surprised if your JR dives down for his pellets - those dogs are too smart!

Hi Patrick

It works cool for chum pieces , agree if you included your bait line in the bucket you stand a chance of it snagging on the release lines. Waiting for another inspiration to modify it so you can add the bait line too? perhaps a sort of bait release clip on the top of the bucket where you hook your bait line to??? and change the release lines to stiff zip tags? . What system did you use?

We use an old plastic flare canister with a hinge type lid. A barrel sinker is mounted inside and a small groove cut in the lip to allow the lid to close if a bait line is placed inside. A tug on the bait line allows the lid to pop open (sometimes not that easily tho). Needs a bit of modification. Will post sometime of the new development although it may be in vain if the season is soon drawing to a close.
